Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pearl Izumi OCP Crisis

Wake up people, particularly my beloved comrades of the OCP persuasion.

I tried to sound the alarm last night with this thread, but apparently youze didn't quite get it.
https://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=290060

We have an OCP crisis here regarding PI's 3D Microsensor shorts.
Performance asserts they are out of stock and that PI has discontinued this version of the short that we OCP'ers know and love . . .
the one with the distinctive, cool & classy white stitching.

Instead, Performance is stocking a "red" version of the 3D Microsensor, which has a dark red inner lining (big deal) and black stitching . . .
regular, run-of-the-mill, indistinctive black stitching, similar to this:

How the hell is any self-respecting poseur supposed to strut his stuff with indistinctive shorts like that???

It doesn't matter that they may be as comfortable as the old Microsensors. That's not important.
The looks is whats important. The white stitching is whats important. The OCP factor is whats important.

It's form over function, not vice versa . . . . HAS PEARL IZUMI LOST THEIR MINDS??

BILLYD IS VERY UPSET!!!

I guess in the grand scheme of things it's good that you're expending energy on this, because it means that you're likely running very, very low on any actual problems.

Oh man, this is problematic.

Looks like they moved their logo to the opposite leg as well. Unless it's an inverted image (which I think it is).

Bad PI, BAD!!!

No, we just spend thousands of hard earned dollars we embezzled from Enron and Tyco to buy cool cycling gear, and then stand around the local 7-Eleven or Starbucks looking really cool. This helps us keep the young chickies looking at us aging Gen X'ers and young B-Boomers, thus maintaining our fragile narcissistic egos.

PI doesn't exactly scream OCP to begin with. Pick up some Castelli YPro's if you want the white stitching.

What's wrong with PI.

I guess I should be tar and feathered, since I use the Performance Elite shorts, which I like better than almost any of the PI shorts that cost twice as much.

I can't claim to overrule the president, but Performance house brand clothing is about as OCP as helmet mirrors and knee-high socks.

Well put, Patriot. I was just about to lay into that guy with the fury of a thousand jungle beasts . . .
The nerve . . .

Maybe I will look into them.
Are they as comfy as the legendary PIs?
I can't spend all that time at the coffee shop in ill-fitting shorts.

I think most newer BF'ers here haven't been around as long to grasp what we really molded OCP into from its conception. It really has more to do with our love of cycling and the obsession we have with it and our gear, and not necessarily with how much money we spend on it.

That said, I am still gunning for an official 2004 USPS team kit off Ebay one of these days.

Try a pair of YPro's and you'll never buy PI again.

Well basically the white stitching in shorts gives them a cool LOOK above and beyond their well-deserved comfort and performance factor. The LOOK has nothing to do with it's value as a top performer, and THAT is the OCP factor.
