Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo R3 Seatpost Options?

The FSA that came with my R3 has way too much setback. Does anybody know of any 32.4 mm carbon seaposts with zero setback?

I believe the Thompson Elite has this size, but I'm not sure if an aluminum post is a good match for a carbon frame, especially considering the Elite has scoring that might damage the seat tube. Am I being overly cautious? The Elite is a great post (I have the 27.2 version), and I've tried using a plastic shim, but no matter how much I tighten it, it still moves.

Thanks for reading.

Thompson Elite is the only 32.4mm zero setback post that I know of. Otherwise, you would have to shim a 31.6 post to get zero setback.

Yea, that's the sad realization I've come to as well. Thanks

Sad? Thomson posts absolutely rock. Get one and you'll never think about your seatpost ever again.

No worries about slipping or cracking.

No, I actually have a Thomson Elite - it's excellent, but it's a 27.2, and the plastic shim I got to adapt it to the R3 frame (USE) doesn't work. The damn thing slips no matter how much I tighten it. Thomson does make a 32.4, but I'm worried that the scoring on the post will damage the inside of the R3's seat tube.

Thanks very much. This pretty much confirms my search results - looks like Thompson's the one, I just hope it doesn't damage the seat tube.

Recommendation from Cervelo!

Ok, Cervelo confirmed that the 32.4 mm Thomson won't damage the frame or void the warranty. Order from Excel Sports is on its way!

USE makes a 31.6 to 32.4 shim. 16 grams. If your a real WW you can get a carbon BTP shim for 6 grams. Lot's of options in the 31.6 range. Doesn't void your warranty. Also you may consider using Tacx paste on your seatpost/shim.
