Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If anyone happens on a sweet Merckx SLX frame in 53 or 54 cm, please please please don't post it here. I have no discipline and I'm about a bike away from a divorce.

The yellow Mercx is an entirely different frame:material, design, fork,a different animal,a great bike as well.

I think that the thin tubed frames look bad.

But I totally understand why someone would want to build one up. Good luck OP.

I'd say more like $500 something plus shipping and potential customs charges if coming into the US. No thanks...

It's the least popular Merckx road frame of the day and not a traditional EM frame color. But someone could get hyped up and drop $700+ on it. Also, for all the photos, the seller oddly doesn't show the left side of the bike at all. For me, plenty of nice 80-90s steel comes up in craigslist and other classifieds for a fraction of what they'd cost you on ebay.

I just missed a lovely Bianchi Reparto Corse ELOS with full Chorus Ergo and more that went for $550. A super sweet bike (I raced one for a couple of years) and never would have went for so little on ebay.

Good luck on the Strada though. I can't remember seeing a Merckx that I didn't like.

Ok I will fully admit I know very little about the differences. Can you enlighten me? I am looking seriously at this frame.

And to others...my Merckx was $900 NOS, no way someone pays $800 for the Strata unless I don't know something important about it being extra special in some way.

Oh crap I didn't notice until now that it is in Europe.

What does that matter? Shipping to the US is $55, it's not unusual to see a higher shipping price from within the US. I recently got a frame from Berlin, rims from Belgium and various parts from Italy, France and the UK. I usually find better stuff in Europe than the US.

My Colnago Master came from an Ebay seller in Germany.... I'm thinking the European market the bike was made for, may be part of the reasons the graphics on it are more subdued, versus the North American Masters of that vintage.

Shipping was $65

Hideous graphics. Nicer looking in the early 80s.

Oh, I gotta disagree. I think it's about the best looking paint job I've ever seen. The colors work together; they don't look like half the graphics would prefer to be somewhere else.

I'll guess $690. Unless. that is, the "BF Effect" takes hold...

AGREED..sounds better too, like a price of a tee shirt; $7.99 sounds "better" than $8.00

Sure works for me. I have a soft spot for the classic frames, and that one looks beautiful to my eyes. I have no idea what's a fair price though. I've salivated over Colognos on eBay that just get bid up like crazy...well over 1K.

You said it,not me. My brother has and old Legnano another brother has a '75 Solex, both classics, both not nearly as rideable as the 2007 SPECIALIZED AND 2002 Bianchis they own, among others. I didn't comment on the ride in my last post because I never rode THAT exact Mercx.I'd reffered to the logical aspect of your notion. In any case, you have a good "control " subject as they say by having ridden your fathers bike.

So who said $560? Anyone? I'm sure this ebay outing cost the new owner a few extra $ but all in good fun right?

Cheers,
