Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires for Bontrager Select Rims

Before you tell me to buy different rims, they're what came on my bike, they've stayed true, and I can't justify replacing them.

My current tires (Continental Ultra Sport) are getting worn, and I'm trying to figure out what to replace them with. These tires are fine performance-wise for my purposes (rec/fitness riding), but I find them very difficult to get on the rims. In fact, I broke a tire lever today trying to put on back on after a flat. As it's impossible (for me at least) to get the tire back on without a lever, there've been quite a few times where I punctured the new tube while trying to put the tire back on after a flat! Very frustrating.

The stock Bontrager Select tires were horrid (flats at least every 100 miles or so and poor ride quality and handling), but their one redeeming quality was that they were very easy to get off and on the rims. It was quite easy to pop the tire back on without a tire lever.

So what I'm hoping for is some tires people have tried with these rims that are both reasonable, moderately-priced training tires and easy to get on and off these rims.

Michelin's are easy to get on and off rims. the Michelin carbon will last forever. Therefore, get the Michelin carbon. they're about 30 bucks each, and will last you 3000 miles or so on the back, more on the front. truly awesome tires.

Just a comment your not suppose to use the Tire Lever to put the tire back on? Or at least that is how my LBS taught me for that very reason. I find it is easiest to use my palms to get one side of the tire on then the other side goes on easily.

Any tire that fits a 700c rim will do. Personally, I like Vittoria & Michelin tires - different models of each
