Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campagnolo BB help

What axle length do I need for a Centaur double crank? Should I use a Campagnolo bottom brackect (I heard they suck, hard)? What is better or comparable for under 100 bucks? Thanks.

There are only a few Campy compatible BB's out there. Phil Wood comes to mind, maybe one or two others, which are more expensive than campy by far for this crank. Yes, you need the 111mm spindle length for that crank. Buy a pair of Veloce BB's off ebay and be happy knowing you have a spare just in case.

You can get a Token from Professional Cycling Discount on Ebay. I have a Carbon/Ti Record compatible one from them and it is lighter and cost less than Campy.

Campy BB do not suck btw.

I have a 26.8mm seat tube, so I think I'm suppose to use a 111mm?

111mm. I have a veloce 111mm bb and installation tool if you are interested. PM if you want it. I'd sell both for $25+ shipping. The Veloce uses a special tool to install the BB. Hell, I have a NIB centaur as well but that would be more. Have the tool for that one too. Both are english threaded.

Be careful about Phil Wood BB. They just started making a campy BB. You can't use a shimano 110mm and call it a day. The spindles are different. If you use a Phil Wood, look at the site carefully.

BTW, you CAN'T use a record or chorus 111mm BB. They are for triples and record/chorus only.

A modern 111mm Campy BB will work regardless if its for a triple or double. If you use the 102mm Campy BB with your Centuar Crankset your chain will rub on the frames chain stays when in the small ring. A 115mm BB might be too wide and cause chain line problems.

I don't think so. the Chorus BB is asymmetrical, at least that's what their literature says, which implies to me that the spindle is offset a bit to one side. Veloce BB's are symmetrical.
