Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Toe's Saturday's Ride...Green Mountains...Covered Bridges...and...A Lamborghini...

So another sufferfest for the Toe...

Just couldn't get the legs moving...Slight headwinds...And some right vastus medialis discomfort...

I had to drop a 700 ft climb I had planned...I feel like I failed when I don't complete the days agenda...

62 miles...5918 ft of climbing...

This is last weeks picture on top of Ascutney Mtn. looking southwest toward Mt. Snow (Elevation 2767)...

This is today looking northeast from Mt Snow toward Ascutney (Elevation 2282)...

Southeast view looking at Mt Monadnock...

It always amazes me how quick the brown to green transformation of Vermont occurs...It is the Green Mountain State...

So there I was in the Dover Valley...Fighting some headwinds when low and behold...

A Lamborghini Countach is parked at a 7-11...

Doors open and the owners inside the store (other spectators stopped to take a look at the car)...

Vermont Plates...Hmmm, I wonder how the car handles Mud Season....

There goes the Lamborghini...

I tried to race him but he dialed it up to 4000 watts and dropped me like a rock...

lol, lambos ( +ferrari aston martin and whatever) are about as common (here in atlanta) as high end Mercs and BMWs.. I know of at least 3 Countach's that just sit in parking lots (never used) on the way to work...and I pass their dealers...

man those are beautiful cars.

beautiful pictures also!

That's not just any Countach, either. It's a 20th anniversary edition Countach.

What road gets you to 2500ft down there? Highest I can find around me is Weston VT at 2200 or so.

There is a spur off the Stratton Access Rd called North Brookwood which climbs another 500 ft or so from the base lodge....

Good for hill repeats...

There are some wicked big houses up the road...

It amazes me that such big houses can be someones second home and remain empty the majority of the year...

Here is my route from the day...and North Brookwood...

lol, someone posts a pic of a gas-guzzling SUV on here and the owner is the anti-christ. A gas-guzzling sports car? Not quite the same response.

Man - I miss Vermont. I know it is subjective, but the combination of the mountains with the green and lack of development make it something special.

I hope you enjoyed the ride.

I often think about how luck I am to live here....

There are not a lot of jobs and one will not make a lot of money but the quality of life makes up for it....

I am sure there are other places that offer similar recreational options but....

In the summer, I can put my bike on the road and ride a century without hitting a stop light and if doing a right handed loop never have to unclip....

In the winter, Stratton is 20 minutes from my door, Mt. Snow 30 minutes, Okemo 45 minutes, and Killington 90 minutes. I ski weekly with my kids....

Life is grand....

Good catch.

Great report! Good to see some snow again.

I would have liked to hear that car go by. I had a Ford GT go by me slow on saturday, then he put his foot to the floor ... whoa !

My favorite stretch of road in VT is the ride from Bondville to the town of stratton, past the resort then back to 100. Especially the stretch from Stratton resort to the town of Stratton. I just love that road.
