Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

schwinn circuit 1999.

so....i've been looking to add a road bike to my stable after not riding one for a while, possibly even to do some low-level races/club rides/maybe even centuries on....

anyway, i came across a schwinn circuit from 1999, and the components are pretty decent, 853 tubing (which...i mean...steel is real). but i've found no reviews. it's 1999. if it were an old paramount (pre-pacific buyout), i'd go for it in a heartbeat, but i wonder about a newer schwinn....any info?

From the timeline on the Schwinn site this would be post-bankruptcy. There are a few guys with Pelotons from that era here who love them. This is lower down in the line. 853 is great stuff. Seems pretty hard to go wrong unless they want too much money for it,

I'm sure you want to know if it's Waterford-built, which I'm not sure of. The C&V forum people could probably tell you in two seconds.

hmmm, i could ask there. i mean, 853 is good and 105 isn't too shabby, but i don't know about the quality of craftsmanship. the headset is tioga, i know...which is funny that they'd dip that far down from 105...like an njs track bike with formula hubs, right? (i can say that to an ssfg denizen, can't i?)

anyway, i'll ask over at c&v. they may have some insight as to how well it's built.
