Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you're talking about GP4000's they are awesome tyres. I've been riding a set for awhile now and they've held up great over the first 800 miles or so.

I have about 500 miles on a pair of 4000 S's (not to be confused with 4000's) that I picked up from PBK. The tread compound seems a little softer than the 4000's. So far they seem great. Don't know if I notice the reduced rolling resistance that is claimed, but they feel good and have no cuts, seem to be wearing well. Plus they look really cool.

I put 3650 miles on a pair when I decided to replace the rear tire. The wear indicators on the rear tire were still visible but the tire had a sidewall scrape/cut that had me concerned so I pulled it off the wheel. I moved the front tire to the back and put a new GP4000 on the front. During this time, the front tire had one flat and the rear had four.

Since I have moved the former front tire to the rear wheel, I have noticed that, after 500 miles on the rear wheel, 4150 miles total, it has not sustained the cuts that the original tire sustained. Does this mean an aged tire wears better than a new tire? I might have a better idea sometime in the future since I had ordered a pair of GP4000s some time ago and they have been hanging in my garage for 6 months before I put one on the front wheel.

I meant 4000S, not the regular 4000. Sorry for the confusion...

I'm interested to compare them to Vittoria OC CXs...

Were the 'S' easier to mount than the previous GP4000 model?

They seemed a little easier, but could just be sample to sample variation.

Those are the regular 4000s not the "4000 S".

I ordered them from westernbikeworks.com for $44.95 each. I've had mixed success with PBK and the tie it takes items to get here in the US. A lot has to do with going through US Customs.

They are very nice tires but I haven't riden Vittoria's in a while and can't make a comparison. I do like them better than Michelon Pro Race Light and Pro Race 2 though if that helps.

Do the new GP4k S tires square off on the rear as quickly as other GP's? My plain old Grand Prix tires have a ~10mm flat spot in the middle with less than 1k/miles. Front looks new, though.

Almost any high performance road tire will start to square off after 1000 miles (on the rear tire). You can usually ride it for another 1000 miles or more with no problems (unless you are a super-heavyweight rider or ride on really terrible roads).

^^ I get that. These did so at a remarkable rate compared to comparable products.
