Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can I use FSA 31.8 Carbon Bars on a Deda 31.7 Stem? (Need to Know Quickly!!)

Has anyone done this? Am I risking cracking the bars?

Someone once told me that the industry standard "oversized" bar and stem sizing is actually 31.7 1/2, and that most companies round up to 31.8, and Deda and a few others round down to 31.7, but in truth they are all the same size... can anyone confirm or deny this?

I need to know kind of ASAP, I have a deal going down... if it matters, the bars are FSA SL-K carbon (OS, 31.8) and the stem is a Deda Zero100 31.7

Thanks!

It's probably all semantics. If you look at what 0.1mm looks like, I can't see it making a difference, so to speak.

Yes! All oversized bars are the same in inches, but some manufacturers want you to think they're different. They are all compatible. I have a Deda 31.7 bar on a Ritchey 31.8 stem. I believe they are all 1.125 inches. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone. I know I'm right about it working, though.

Sure. No reason why not. It must be a typo, because they are all standard.
