Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Sunday Ride 5/26

Greetings all!!! Time to tell us about your Sunday ride or what you are doing instead.

Question of the day: What is the most impulsive thing you have every done?

Later that same day:
Someone told me that it's actually 5/27. I hope everyone will be smart enough to figure it out anyway. Because 5/26 would really be Saturday.

The most impulsive thing I've ever done was putting up this post without making sure I had the right date. I can only hope I've learned my lesson. Next thing you know I'll think Santa Claus shows up on the 24th.

Rode for a little over an hour yesterday morning and hit 17.8 mph for a bit - longest and fastest ride since hernia surgery.

No ride today. Weather is crap and I'm pretty sore. Might do some yoga or something to stretch things out a bit.

I needed a break and so I rode a leisurely 73 mile at 18 mph. It was a beautiful day for riding with temps starting in the low 60's F and ending up about 80 F. There was a breeze, but it wasn't bad and the skies were blue and sunny. There was a hint of smoke early, but only for the first few miles. The first 20 miles or so I rode with a friend, but he had things to do and headed back early.

I went south of town into the horse farm country and rode the loop that is going to be used for the State road race championships in a couple of weeks.

Nice early 9:00 am, out-n-back 20 mile ride today. Beautiful sunshine, and temps started in the low 60's. Seemed like I was the only person on the road today. Saw one runner, and maybe 20 vehicles period. I've attached a profile to show the ride back was definately faster than the ride out.

4hrs/60miles in Zone 2. Did 2x20minute intervals yesterday. So I'm frikkin tired.

Got up pretty early though, which made the first 2 hours really nice, cool and quiet. Saw 6 deer along the loop - well 7 if you count the one that was hit by a car.

I had just enough time for a 20-mile out-and-back. Got about 2 miles from home and had a flat. First time I've ever changed a flat on my own, so it took me a little while to get it right. By the time I finished, there wasn't time for a ride, so I headed home and rode a couple laps around the cemetery. Bah. A whopping 5.5 miles.

After two weeks off the bike due to a cold and then bronchitis, I kept it to a brisk 27mi today with HR averaging around 80-85%. I'm still hacking up junk occasionally but nonetheless managed to make my best time ever over the course and I'm feeling pretty good afterward. Hopefully this crud is finally leaving me.

46 miles on mostly roads I havent ridden before. The weather was amazing- hardly any clouds and just slight breezes. Only problem was that I forgot my sunscreen and I am just a tad burned.

Oh and I outran a dog. It wasnt large, and I had a bit of a headstart, but it was fun none the less.

21.5 miles in light rain... not far, but not too bad for a newbie.

50 miles.

Old La Honda, back up West Alpine, down Pagemill, exit off Altamont, down to Foothill College. Saw a fire engine and paramedics coming up Pagemill. My guess was someone had a mountain bike injury on the trails. A little bit cold and wet on the ridgeline, but going back up West Alpine, the weather was nice and sunny.
