Anyone own a bike worth more than their car LOL

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone own a bike worth more than their car LOL

Well I decided I want to save money for a business and I've been working 50+hrs and moved back with the parents.

I just sold my car and got 17k cash from the sale. I still have an old beater 1991 Civic worth about $1500.

Now I'm commuting to work on my bicycle. My bike is a Kestrel Evoke SL with Shimano Dura Ace and some upgraded components worth more than 5k.

I just realized my bike is more of an asset than my car, haha. If it came down to it I'd rather see my car get stolen than my bike. Haha. Oh well. I gotta do what I gotta do.

of course.
It's almost mandatory for the struggling bike racer to be on a $10 000 weapon and driving a bucket.....and to expect everything from their bike shop to be supplied at "cost + 10%".....

technically, your bike is only worth what someone else would pay for it at the time. but i kinda know how you feel. i have my own business, drive a beat-up '93 integra, and have put close to $3k into my current bike. go to any local crit and you will see that there are lots of others like us.

Right now, no. But on my previous car the roof rack was probably worth more than the car for about the last year of it's life.

the evoke SL is at least 2 grands retail but I can get them for around 1500 USD. So the frame alone is worth that much for you Erasmus Ignoramus out there. That said, I really hope the OP would post some pics.

My bike isn't particularly valuable but considering I don't own a car, it's worth a lot more.

I do!
I don't own a car though, so whatever bike I own will be worth more than my nonexistant car.

Bikes >= Car.

Yes my bikes are worth more than my car.

My car is worth nothing - maybe $500.

My bikes - well, I've spent 000s, they're probably not worth much more than $500 tho. The new transition would probably sell for more than the car.

I just bought a new car...

My 1994 Toyota 4-Runner has 178,282 miles on it...

The dealer did not want it...Said he would give me $1 for it...

So yes, everyone of my bikes cost more than my car...

My car is an old '86 Jeep pickup. Paid $1400 for it a few years ago. I have $5000+ in two Cannondales. I guess this qualifies ;-)

I know I've told this story here before, but I drove to the start of the North Fork Century last year in my beat up 1998 Honda Civic DX hatchback with (2) brand new Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2's and a one-year-old Cannondale CAAD8 on a rear rack, and we were all praying that if we got into an accident it was a head-on collision!

Seeing as a I own no car and I own a bike (two, in fact), I'd say "yes". What I will never understand is the attitude that spending $2k on a bike (modest, IMO) is outrageous, this coming from folks who no doubt routinely purchase $20+k cars. The bike will probably last longer and cost less to maintain, no less. Heck, the insurance on the car probably costs more than the bike.

I own a 1988 Samauri and a F900 Cannondale - does that answer your question? But the tractor I bought last week is worth more than both of them put together...

My bike is worth more than anything I own; monetarily and emotionally. It also cost me about $1200 to put together.

I'd like to keep it that way.

Until I get a house that is.

Sorry to say this, but bikes can't be used as collateral so to the bank your bikes are worth nothing.

but if i put all my bike stuff together, it'll all be worth more than my car. And when my buddies and i go racing, we've easily doubled or tripled the value of my car. (custom steel with record and powertap sl, calfee carbon with record, cannondale systemsix with duraace+SRM, three sets of race wheels, tools, gear)

1995 Nissan Maxima with 130,000k versus a 2005 IF Ti Crown Jewell, full DA and Kysyrium wheels. It's crazy. Yeah the bike is worth more than the car till you have to make a repair on the car and then things get put in their true perspective. I could get more for the bike in resale but I have to have motor transportation and the Maxima still runs good, so in that respect, it is still worth more to have. It's paid for so I don't have monthly payments.

My daily driver is a 1988 S-10 that a co-worker gave me when it had engine trouble. I've spent probably less than $500 on it over the past 5 years. It refuses to die. I routinely drive around with a titanium Quintana Roo and a carbon fiber Calfee in the back. Even used, they're worth probably 5 times what the truck's worth.

I certainly do. My best bike may well be worth more than both my wife's and my car.

I have a 2007 IF Crown Jewel with full DA. Total cost of the bike was just over $5k.

My wife's car is a 1996 Honda Accord with 180k+ on the clock, my car is a 2000 Ford Focus with 140k+ on the clock. We'd be lucky to get more than $2,000 for either of those cars.
