I'm pretty sure the original wheels were Araya 700c. (Actually I went and checked, and yes they were.) Currently I've got a pair of 700c Wolber 36-spoke rims laced to Shimano 600 hubs.

I just built up a Rock Lobster scandium road bike. pretty light, have yet to weigh it, but I think its less than 16.5 pounds. I took it for a 40 mile ride today and its a sweet ride! built with fsa crank/ti bb, zero setback seatpost and headset. campy shifters, front derailluer, an old 7 speed dura ace rear derailliur, zero gravity brakes, 3t stem, flite saddle, salsa handlebar and real hubs with tubular rims.

Paul Sadoff at RL knows how to build bike! the handling is great and it just wants to fly up the hills. I really like the zero gravity brake calipers...the cam action is the best. it starts off with a light rub and then the calipers smoothly bits harder when I pull back a little more...very good modulation.

I took this wheelset off another bike and we are headed into winter. these are tubulars, so I'll leave them on til the tread is gone or they flat...this bike is for riding!

the pinarello iin the background s not mine, I'm building it up for a friend. the yellow bike is a Lobster cross bike made of easton ultra lite tubing, the orange bike is a paramount track bike. two more road bikes are not in the photos: ritchey logic and a kestrel 200 ems. I feel better everytime I go down there!

Update

I know it has only been a few days, but I already did a couple of updates to my bike:

I switched the cranks from the FSA 36/50 compact to the aluminium Record 39/53, and added my S-Works handlebar. And, then I finished building this bike:

I'm not quite sure, as the frame was given to me by a friend. I think it's circa 1998.:)

Does this homemade commuter count as a road bike?

WillisB: Whoa, that bike is nuts. Is that a converted mountain bike or are you just gigantic?

It is a converted 23" Mt. bike. I got the frame/bars/stem/bar-cons/brakelevers/brakes from a friend who was cleaning out the basement of his sporting goods store. I put on a 28/38/48 suntour crank and wheelset off a bike my son outgrew. The cassette is an 11-28 8 speed. Simplex Bar-cons. I have long arms for my height. I have well under $100 in it.

This bike is very comfortable for me to ride. I finished it Sunday and have done 3 rides; 10 mi, 15mi, and 15 mi. I still need to add fenders and rack.
