Was going to go custom wheels, even possibly carbon tubulars, but got a good deal on some brand new '08 Mavic Ksyrium SL Premiums (basically the '07 ES's - the ones with the red hub & 1 red spoke - but with Ti axles & skewers). Wasn't going to spend the cash for a while either, but, well, we know how that goes

My rolf's are now back up wheels, and recently they've been giving me issues which is why I went wheel shopping in the first place. Differences between the two?
-Weight wise they're the same, about 1480g.
-They both climb about the same, with a slight advantage to the mavics.
-On flats, the mavics feel much stiffer and more stable, and feel 5x more stable going downhill.
    -They corner much better too.
-The mavic hubs are silent. So silent that when I hear them as I'm wheeling the bike through my house, I think something is wrong, then I realize it's the pawls. The rolf's were LOUD, but I was so used them, that I didn't care (5,000+ miles on the rolfs). I do miss using my pawls to alert people/riders that I come up upon. Now I'm in complete and total stealth mode.

I'm using the exact same tires and tubes to try and get an accurate comparison. I'm pleasantly surprised by them and happy with the purchase. I've only got about 100 miles on them so far, but they seem very solid.

The only problem I had was that the bearings needed adjusting right out of the box, even though Mavic says they come set up and ready to go. It was a quick fix.

That's weird, cause most companies just set back the actual clamp.

    (And that was no accident)

Well, seems you are surprised so I take it it was not you and your ride I saw that day. I will point out that someone else in the area must have a similar bike, Similar white Fort frame and blue tape, as I did a double take on all white frames passing now that I will be buying an all white frame for the upcoming race season. More or less to match the best young rider jersey I will surely earn then.

Slvoid, enough with the voyeurism, that is most definitely taken with a ec300-x9 eyeglass camera. I'm sure she would not approve of your secretive photography and posting on the inter-web.

Where exactly was it? 9W as in upstate? If so,not me but I've yet to see someone else out on the road w/ a Fort, let alone one that sounds just like mine. BTW, I absolutely love my Fort frame, but I do have a secret plan if it ever dies: I'm gonna buy an SLC-SL frame and have it painted blindingly bright white w/ no logos and rebuild.

Thanks, thats what I was going for. The pics do it no justice though. The lugwork and craftsmanship are absolutely outstanding on that bike. The Prestige tubeset makes it ride amazing yet stiff. Bill Davidson was/is truly a master.

my first road bike a '07 Schwinn Le Tour GS, 3 days new!
I know, it's a cheapie compare to what u guys have... but it's my first roadie

    and my '05 Giant Rincon

    I wanted a Giant OCR 3 or a OCR 2
so I called my the 3 Giant dealers within 20 mile radius... all sold out. The new '08 models won't be in for another week or so... I just couldn't wait, so I settled with a Schwinn.

Badaboom, bless you for posting your Schwinn! For two reasons:

    1) Any brand new bike IS the most beautiful bike in the universe -- hands down. So congratulations and ENJOY!

    2) I myself bought an OCR 3 just a month ago, and have held back posting the details in my signature, or any pictures, for fear of bike snobbery... but come on... it's new, and it's my baby. Sure I'll upgrade it as I go. Sure I need to get in better shape (and I am). But couldn't anybody see that it's the MOST BEAUTIFUL BIKE IN THE WORLD? No Colnago or Seven has anything over it!

Problem is, you show up on those group rides and people look at your bike and then quickly look away. So I get to feeling inferior. Well, you showed me! Power to the people!

    P.S. I won't tell you how happy I am with the OCR 3... ;-)
