My first build 58 cm Fuji Roubaix RC

Finished my first build. I still have some more to do (I really want to upgrade to red Titanium Speedplays and a wireless computer). Yes I know the zip ties could be black, but I was out. I think it turned out pretty good.

Picked up this Fuso FR1 last night from a Craig's list seller. It's going to get stripped down and converted to Campy Chorus Compact since I already have some of the parts. I've always wanted a Fuso and for a 53cm in Black to show up out of nowhere, woot! I had planned on purchasing a steel frame with the tax refund so this was a nice surprise to find on Craig's list.

    Hi,

Super find! I have got to try scanning Craig's List more often as I keep on seeing people's good purchases. That is one of the steel frames that I would love to own and ride. It's also pretty close to my size -- especially if it's 53 cm C-T.

    Enjoy!
    Thanks.

    '07 Fetish Penna

Built up on a budget for crit racing and TT's.
NOS Dura Ace 7700 hubs, mid-cage rear derailler, and 9spd bar-end shifters (I know, I'm swimming upstream here!). NOS Dura-Ace 7400 single pivot calipers, ft. derailler and brake levers.
Vintage Mavic GL330 tubular rims, Wheelsmith 14/15g tapered spokes and gold alu nipples.
Pedals are just temporary. About 19lbs as shown but I'm planning in getting some carbon stuff and "bolt tune" it to knock off some more weight but I wanted to get it finished for a TT this Sunday.
Fetish advertised these frames with a 27.2 seatpost on Ebay but it's actually a 31.6 so I had to get a mtn post and cut it down but I'll get a carbon one eventually.

    Hey Smurfy,
Love the build! Particularlly the wheel-set.
    If you don't mind,
What did it cost you to put this together?

    Rough estimate about $750.
Frame (Ebay) was $199. All the Dura-Ace stuff except ft. derailler (which I already had lying around) I got real cheap from a friend of mine who stripped down a Rivendell (which he never rode except around the neighborhood) to put up on Ebay. The Velo Ti saddle was given to me by a LBS manager friend of mine and he sold me the used Mavic rims for $30/pair which I built up myself (its nice to have friends in the bike biz since I don't work at a shop anymore). Fork, crank, h/bar, front tire (+ a spare one) used from Ebay. Everything else was from Nashbar, Performance (a Performance store is less than six miles from where I live), and PricePoint.

How is the shifting with bar-ends? You should write a thread after your first crit in the Race fourm, about your experiences racing with bar-ends. I'm currently stuck between going with bar-ends or buying a modern brifter setup.

So far so good but I only rode this bike once (nine miles to work and back). I'm used to bar-end shifters anyway from touring bikes. Actually this set-up is significantly lighter than the Dura Ace 10sp brifters.

Tomorrow I'm going to ride it on an early morning club training ride (40+ miles) and Sunday's 10mi TT so I'll let you know how it goes. Pics, too, hopefully (I'll bring my camera!).

Carpdiemracing advised me on cutting the h/bar to get the right hand shifter as close as possible to the brake lever so I hope I did this right!

New old stock Nishiki Modulus SRT frameset built up with Shimano Tiagra STI.

I built her up with some spare parts I had laying around. I only needed to purchase a set of wheels. She sure is purdy!
