    For "The Heckler"

How do you like the ride/performance of the Jamis? I've been lusting after one at a LBS for years. Wondering how it is?

wow, glad all you guys approve of it! i have never felt a bike ride like this before - the combination of the light weight, bb30 stiffness, lightweight wheelset - this thing just goes. it's pretty incredible.

My 2007 53cm Pedal Force RS. Recently ditched 2 cm worth of spacers and got through a double century without too much pain.

I wasn't part of the group buy but am wondering what happened to the posters that did participate as I don't see many RS pics anymore.

Another Jamis Eclipse, don't see many of them. 2007 frameset which I built up.

As long as we're posting up pictures of Jamis builds, I thought I'd chime in. This is an '03(I think) steel Quest I built up with 6500/7700. The bike lives in Santa Fe with its girlfriend, also a Jamis (my GF's)

Mine has turned out great. Now before I talk about ride and handling, you should know that I normally race a 54cm 2008 Felt Tk2 at my track and that I'm 5'11" so my idea of how a bike feels may differ from yours.

The ride is probably the best thing about this bike. Between all the carbon tubing, an EC70 fork, and a 1000mm wheelbase, I feel like I'm sitting on an old couch. When you hit a pothole the frame absorbs the sharp end of the bump and, while you still get shaken up, you don't feel like someone punched you in the neck. It's the same for vibration. You still feel it, but the high frequency is mostly gone. This would lead you to believe it's as stiff as a noodle, but I think it's just fine. The carbon does a good job in keeping things straight. Besides if I wanted something super stiff I would be on my track bike.

The handling feels safe to me. I'm confident going into corners fast and not worrying about pedal strikes or skids. And if you screw up, it forgives you.
As far as the speed at which you can change direction (like zig zag), you won't notice anything out of the ordinary. It's not a Cadillac, it just has traditional road geometry.
Lastly, I don't have any problems keeping the bike in line. It likes to go straight, unlike the TK2 which seems to have ADD.
So this it's perfect if you like solid/stable platforms. I think its ideal for long road races. For criteriums, though, maybe a frame with a higher head angle.

In case you're worried about weight, I just found out mine was 19.8lb/9.0kg. I don't have the lightest components, so I think someone could get it down to 18.0lb if they really got into it. But I am god so gravity doesn't affect me
