Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

[QUOTE=Spookeay Bird;12148195]Ok, I give you what was once known the Cadillac of bikes,,,,, A Schwinn.
OK OK, they went bankrupt and Pacific Cycle stole the name. But @ under 24#'s it's a good starter for a pore girl like me.

That's a pretty cool ride. I think some of the Schwinn road bikes are a little underrated. Granted they are not as high end as a lot of these bikes in the thread, but it is all in what gets us on the road. Here is one of my Schwinns. It's a Fastback Comp.

Love the setup! I probably need to do something like this for our garage. What did you use for the wall mount and hooks, looks like a nice basic and easy setup.

I did it because I didn't care of the outcome. I got the frame dirt cheap and it had a teams sponsers on it and wanted it gone, after 4 hours of sand/painting/drying It came out way be tter then I exspected, people that have seen it in person thought I powered coated it

Unfortunately I did not weight it before and after.....but it currently weighs 14.92lbs

Did you wet sand between coats, or just sand first and spray a couple of coats until finished? Looks nice in the picture! Satin or flat black?

Don't listen to Lectron your bike looks great. I love the flat black. For that matter Lectron's bike looks great too, and has very little color to it. I love the look of that old Ti Merlin you got there. Very minimalistic looking.

I did some updates to my 5200 recently. I almost sold it twice, and my friend borrowed it for the last 9 months. I finally sold him all the stuff I didn't want off of it, and I put stuff on it I wanted. I think it will be a nice training bike now, and a good crit racer, with my Spinergys on it. These Rolfs weigh a ton, but I love how they are bomb proof, and they look quite nice on it. Here is a short timeline.

When I got it. For the most part. It did have new bars, and a stem upgrade.

then some modding went on.

Now it's newest incarnation. Scrapped all the Shimano, went with Sram Force, and removed the chainstay sticker for a carbon protector, and then I got a Reynolds Ouzo Aero fork for cheap, and put the hand me down saddle from my Cervelo on, reverted back to alloy bars, and cages. Shown with MTB pedals, I have another set of Speedplays on the way for it. I think the seat needs to be blue, or at least have blue accents, but I had this one sitting around. I don't think it looks too bad.

However, it is just my backup bike for training, and crit races now. It's a much better bike now than when I started, but it's no Cervelo......

my baby.

I hope they are colorful enough for Lectron.

That USPS trek looks 100% better than it's original form. Honestly I think the BIGGEST improvement was removing the shimano sticker on the chain-stay and adding the new front fork. I am not a fan of those ROLF wheels just because I never got into that gaped spoke pattern.

Your right, it is no cervelo, but it is one hell of a nicer bike than it was b4. Good job not offing it the few times you were thinking about it.

a black saddle, black bar tape, and your spinergy wheels would make that the best looking USPS OCLV i have ever seen.

edit: i did like the kcnc crankset better but i am guessing the rings are on the cervelo...

No the KCNC crank, well one of them got sold, the original ISIS one I bought. Then I got a newer external BB one. It is sent out for servicing. The Red chainring on the Force crank, is off of the Cervelo, because the Force crank had a bent tooth when I got it. The Red chainring weighs like 113g, and is not allowed near my Cervelo.

yeah i noticed you did a chainring swap. the crankset is not that big of deal. i vote that you throw the spinergys and bottle cages from the cervelo on it just to get an idea what she could look like.

I put the Spinergys on it, just to look at I need another 10speed cassette though, I don't want to change them all the time. It looked sweet. It dropped a ton of weight too. The Rolfs while being bomb proof, I mean I've had them for 4 years, and never had to true them. Even with my friend who is much heavier rolling them all last year. Despite their stout reliability, they are heavy as hell. Great training wheels though. I've also already thought about putting the Syntace Racelite Carbon bars, and the bottle cages back on the Trek, and buying new better ones for the Cervelo. I dunno if I want to use carbon bars for a crit bike though. I want to buy Chis King BB, and Headset for the Trek too. Undecided on color.

Yeah I got the frameset on closeout fall of 2009 from Art's Cyclery. First I put the Ultegra off of the Trek on it, then I slowly upgraded it as time went on. Then eventually putting the Trek back together. Then I slowly amassed parts, and they got where they are. I love the SLC. Such a fast bike.

You should listen to Lectron as he's always right, BUT. He said HE liked colors.

Your bike looks great..Making a system six not look great is the closest thing to impossible

As for my merlin...It's my training bike and Ti...don't need no paint
CF bikes are already painted, and I would have chosen a color for that paint...That's all

But there again...When I'm on the bike, I'm on the bike....Not a freakin catwalk......
