How much did you pick it up for? I've had mine (pic below) since 2005 and it's been a great bike.

well that's a really cool build man, mad respect.

The seller sold it to me for $450! It's supposed to be a good thing but it makes me wonder if I really got a good deal since the bike retailed for $1410 new according to Bikepedia. How much did you buy yours? Did you change any parts on your bike? Mine is completely stock. I realized my stem is more upright than yours. Do you know why?

I love it. I've ridden everything from a Brooks to a Fi'zik to the SMP, and the SMP is just the best. I had one on my TT bike and it made riding a TT bike tolerable, so I got one for the road and never looked back.

The Universe did you right! I recently got the same bike with Sram Red. Love it!

I bought mine new in 2005 and I had the shop swap out cranks from the Shimano triple to the FSA that's on it now and I paid $1280 which includes taxes. Took the saddle off my old road bike and still use it on the Allez. For the stem just flip it over for a more aero position. Over the years I swapped out wheels, rear der, cassette and a Dura ace bottom bracket. I,m very happy with the bike and I do race on it.

If it has seen little use and you paid $450 I believe you got a good deal. Enjoy!

That sounds like a lot of upgrades! Your bike must be really light now right? I've never seen bikes with a flipped stem. Wouldn't it look awkward or is it usually done in bikes?

I also have a problem with leaning the bike on walls. I always have to be careful not to lean the shift lever onto the wall or else the Shimano 105 logo will scrape off unlike the new designs where its covered with more rubber. I added a pic so you know what I'm talking about.

    84 Lotus Unique

My ride is an 84 Lotus Unique. This bike works me to death, but has endeared itself to me by consistently getting better, two trips to the LBS for Bottom Bracket and Hub work. About $200 in upgrades, and now I have a bike that is both a pleasure to ride and an attention getter.

I approve of the GT's uncut stem [too long]... better to get properly fitted and stretch into the fit than cut too early and then be F****d later when it's wrong, though it looks odd with that many spacers... it's ok.
Personally I dig the color scheme.
