Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a steel 1998 (?) Lemond Maillot Jaune in all it's "badness" - outrageous dark purple with yellow and red decals. It's a LOT better bike than I am a rider, for sure. It's my regular riding bike.

Just for fun I have a few vintage rides: a 1974 Raleigh International (all Campy), a 1983 Casati (all Campy), a rather odd 1980's Benotto 850 (odd because it's NOS with NOS Shimano 600 highly detailed ornate components) and a new not yet received Masi 3V full Campy SR with the prerequisite Alberto signatures on top tube and fork (from the 1980's). The vintage bikes are all pretty much mint or NOS.

My motor may be old and worn, but I still appreciate a great steel ride !

Road bike #10 arrived for me this week.

2004 Dahon Allegro "folding" road bike. Full Ritchey WCS tubing, blend of 105 (STI, brakes) / Ultegra (derailleurs), Cane Creek HS, American Classic post, ISIS BB, and Sprint 350 wheels. Just picked up the Allegro Airliner case for traveling (standard luggage size) and with a Y-allen wrench (4mm, 5mm, 6mm) it comes apart in less than 10 minutes. Same setup as the Ritchey break-away, but for $1,000 less and the AC wheels are STOCK! A few web shops still have them in stock for $1300-$1500.

Dahon Allegro

First flight (San Diego) coming soon! No more business trips riding a stationary bike in their "gym".

Can you say how tight the fit is in the case and what size your frame is? I've been researching the Break-Away and S+S designs as I too need a travel bike much for the same reasons you do. I am concerned however that if the packing sequence and fit is very tempermental/tight that TSA is going to eventually destroy something after they open up the case to inspect it and pack it back improperly. I've heard of horror stories like this and after viewing the condition of the contents of some of my checked luggage which has had the little "inspected by TSA" calling card left in them, I would be highly concerned.

Not a vintage freak, just a poor student without money...

1977 (guess) Koga Miyata Gents racer Shimano 600 (and tange/SR parts)
1982 (guess) Batavus Champion Shimano Altus LT (and tange/SR parts)
1992 (guess) Peugeot Ventoux 14 Shimano Exage 500 parts
1980s/2005 Cornello (unidentified) frame which i'm building up right now (600/Exage/RSX100/SR/Tange/etc etc horrific mixed) but with Mavic 192 rims

will end up with the cornello and the peugeot and give the rest away. Old trash.

Kids road bike with 24" wheels, for my 7-year old daughter Ashley. No, she's not quite tall enough for it, but I got such a good deal.

Jacket, spare tube & patch kit, pump, camera, wrenches, lunch, and sometimes walking shoes and/or red wine. That's actually the smallish Caradice "Barley" bag. It's a really nice size. The bigger Nelson Longflap's on my Woodrup sport-Tourer. I do lots of solo rides, and like to have some lunch half way through, take some pictures, etc... Weight's not a huge concern; I'm fat & slow up hills anyway.... But I get there BTW- did another 30 miles on the Laing today; what a nice ride; perfect fit, smooth and stable, yet plenty responsive. You racers wouldn't like it though...

It took a while, but it is finally here. I was given a surprise with the American Classic wheelset. I'm not really sure I like them more than the Velomax wheels that were supposed to come with it. They are certainly lighter and geared towards high performance, but I'm a heavy rider and liked the reviews I saw on the Velomax...we'll see how it goes. First impression: smooth carbon ride and gobs of gearing. It was a shame to put cages and my "emergency" bag on the seat. It makes it feel so much heavier. Weight with Speedplay pedals is 17lbs. Now if only the engine can lose some weight...

I tried to get some details of the carbon. Click on the thumbnails for larger images:

I'm not sure if I have posted this here or not. I know I posted my old bike but I don't feel like going through 78 pages to see if I posted this one or not. If it's a double post I apologize.

Anyway, here is my IF Ti Crown Jewel.

This is my favorite bike on the forums...If there was a Cervelo R2.5 Team built with Campy I might like that better but I haven't seen it yet...and even then I may still like this one better.

The flashing light is a CatEye TL-LD120III-R. It comes with a nice long clip (like a cell phone belt clip) that slides through a loop sewn into the black of the wedge bag for that very purpose. I tried a trek flashing light, but it had a nasty habit of deactivating when I hit any bumps. Also, the Trek inferno light was too heavy and hit the CO2 pump.

Does it ever come unclipped? I think i'll just sew one onto the back of my wedge bag in that case.

Nice black Bianchi. Did you already gather all data such as age, weight, materials used etc?
