Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had some adventures in bicycle maintenance today with the Serotta. Needed to retape the bars because I cut the black tape too short. I used some red tape I had laying around (yeah I know, tape ought to match the seat etc, but whatever), and also rotated the handlebars up, and slid the hoods down to compensate and keep them level. Well… Now that the job is done, I realized these changes require a longer cable housing length. So now the handlebars are "tight" when I attempt a sharp turn. Grrrrrr…

I got my first road bike yesterday. A Merida Ride 90. It's a cheap beginners road bike, but I'm very happy with it.

I Just have to revisit the shop for some fine-tuning of the front derailleur, since it's scraping the chain a bit when in the highest 3 gears. Other than that it rides very well

Might be a weird question, but did you buy this from a guy in Oregon? This looks like a friend's build.

Just a funny coincidence, then. I had a friend who had the same frame, wheels, group, and stem. In any case, it's a great looking bike.

Nah - my requirement for wheels is that they be aero, not super-heavy, and bullet-proof. I think those have been trued twice in about 5,000 miles, and the second time was just because I'm picky

Cheers

My first road bike, a 2010 Jamis Ventura Race Femme! It may not be as fancy as the other ones people are showing off, but it's my first bike and I'm proud. I bought it used and it has higher quality components than I could have afforded if I had bought new. The bike only had 200 miles on it when I bought it. I'm racking them up for my first Ragbrai in July!
