Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here's a quick and dirty shot of my new CR1 SL. The lens distortion makes the bar angle look weird but they're not tipped up. I'll eventually do some proper photography of this lovely machine. I swapped in a 3T cockpit and got upgraded to carbon bars for next to nothing. Shoes are in the mail and will clip into Look Keos.

I thought he was talking about cabling, not the shifters themselves.. It looks like from your previous photos the left shifter controls the rear derailleur and the right controls the front?

probably crosses the cabling on the downtube. Common way to do it. It allows for much lower radius bends of the housing at the front of the bike, which leads to smoother shifting.

thanks everyone for the comments! and yeah the wheels are Williams System 58s... I just took off the big decals and left the little logos. great wheels. bike surprisingly weighs in at just a hair over 17lbs even with the heavier (1850g claimed) wheels

Raced the bike today for the first time this season (was out from knee surgery for a long time) and it felt great.

A lot of really beautiful bikes in this thread. The older S2 paint looks a lot nicer imo.

An old fashioned Pinarello Montello SLX for me, can't afford better than second hand, I've done more on it in 3 months than I ever did on my other bike

Got my first road bike a couple weeks ago. CAAD9 6. Two weeks in and I absolutely love both the bike and road cycling.

My daughter is a Cannondale fan as well...

short head tube and the previous owner cut the steerer tube down, not to mention I ride a 58 and that was a 56, seat is still higher than bars so as far as I'm concerned its fair game...

Find guys that go through bikes like shoes. The $300 parts groupo, $400 allez expert, and my awsome $400 specialized langster all came from the same guy...

said langster:

Huh, I didn't know you could do that. Makes sense. But if the cable crosses on the downtube, doesn't it rub against each other while shifting? I guess it doesn't do any damage by doing so... I might try it! :-)

Actually, I wouldn't bother. It was hard enough to wiggle the cable out the slot by the BB of my BMC frame, I don't want to cross them inside, either.

Besides, the sharp bends of the cables under the bartape are enough to negate a slightly bigger radius in the housings between the bars and the frame.

it was hard enough to get the yokozuna housings to do the criss cross bend. keeping them on the original side required too much housing, or too much pressure to bend it. Amazingly, it wasn't hard at all to get the cables out of the bottom of the downtube. took about 3 tries per side.
