Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Traded a 58cm 2.1 Apex for a 56cm Madone 4.6. I really like the small frame better.
I rode a couple of competitors, but this was my favorite. My LBS is the bomb, they are really fair and good with trades!

A couple modifications out of the gate:
It had white hoods on it, but I think those were hideous, so they swapped to black.
Pulled my RXLs and swapped over, noticed the Madone didn't have the Bontrager R2 tires it was supposed to. They free upgraded me to R4, winning.
I think the wheels clash a bit, but they are a little lighter and roll nicer, so I'll take function over form in this case.
It weighed in at 16lbs, 11oz.

Compared to the aluminum frame it replaced, this bike is crazy stiff, super quiet, and is a climbing and accelerating banshee.
I sold my pedals to a local guy, since I was using 520s and the shoes I had were too small and caused pain. After I sell the shoes, I'll look at maybe going clipless again and do a road pedal and shoe this time. Not sure yet on that.

I looked at a lightweight bottle cage, until I saw what they cost, then laughed and transferred my $5 old trusty one over.

Went right out and did 15 miles, but had to stop because I was out playing bike way too long today, and had to get back to the family.

Got a call from the LBS telling me my new rig was ready 3 days early. Pedals still in the mail. Pardon the crappy cell phone pic.

What are the bottle cages you currently have on???

Buy'um you won't be disappointed. Every bit as good as the Dura Ace c24 i had on my previous bike. Super smooth, strong and light. I'm running 700x24c tyres on them.

Just added some Speedplay Zeros = nice.

Why won't we like it? I happen to think it is a fine looking ride, and, if you enjoy it, do our opinions really matter that much?

Cheers,

cc700 that's a great looking bike. I like it a lot. I have those bar end blinkies too - they were a great cheap purchase.

Just got it from "Play it again" store

r2000 si .. I was stunned - the bike was like one month old. Even "size 56" paper sticker was like new.
Better condition than my 2 y.o. road bike.
My wife's bike benefited too - wheels w/Ultegra cassette and almost new Conti Grand Prix 3000 tires went to her bike..
Oh..it was $500 plus tax.

I just installed my saddle, pedals and bottlecages.

Oh goodness, that bike for 500 is a steal! I had a Caad4 R2000 and i LOVED it. Ultegra 6500 is all the group anyone should need, and that sexy sexy paintjob with integrated headset is very eyepleasing. i will say that paired spoke wheels are the death of me. truing my bontrager select and race lite was the worst mechanical challenge i've faced. good choice moving them to the wife's fuji. she's probably not as hard on wheels as you unless you weigh substantially less than her.
Enjoy that bike! It's a killer!

and yes, my current bike is very hot. I just figured since the stem isn't slammed and the saddle is just a Kappa, it's not quite up to 41 standards. but maybe the fact that it's a 880 gram frame is enough.
justfitme: you're right! the water bottle is too small! my 40 mile ride yesterday had me going through it at mile 35.

I think I did not explained this wheel situation clear - I moved these 16 paired spokes to my wife's bike and pulled Bontrager Race's to Cannondale - bad idea?

I was going to make it more black on yellow

Reverse it?
And yes, my wife is 60 lbs less than me..

Talking about stem and saddle - I like stem with red accents - compliments everything esle, and about saddle - nobody in the world have a right to critisize anybody's saddle

Just picked up a stock 55cm BMC Team Machine with Red. We did swap out the EA90 for EC90 stem. Will cut the steer tube soon.
