Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

NOT MINE!!!

This is what we call an Otaku Bike here in Japan. Otaku are guys with no social skills and live in a world based on Comic books. They fantasize over female characters in comics, and usually have lots of money because, as I said, they have no social life. Notice carbon frame and electronic ultegra etc.

I'm Japanese and as much as I like anime and I admit being an Otaku, that bike is horrible. How should I put this? It makes me embarrassed somehow. And to think this bike is Di2 Ultegra...waste of original coolness of the bike.

If the image floats and doesn't move when the wheel rotates, I think it's pretty cool. But maybe on another bike.

How much of the population in Japan have mental-related issues?

Serious question. I just found out about that OTAKU thing now but I know there's a high suicide rate in Japan.

Well many people of Japan may be anime fans, and most are, like me, just watch it when they have time. I don't buy those weird anime girl plastic figures (too embarrassed to buy crap like that), I don't buy those disgusting anime character pillows, I don't buy those adult games, and I don't prefer anime world over real world.
It's just the minority that are seriously addicted to anime that they spend every pennies for collecting those kind of ****. Personally, I can be friends with them, but I don't really understand them. But that's that. There are different kinds of people everywhere. I know that since I lived in USA in my childhood. So what are my needs for discriminating hardcore anime fans?

Also, women tend to be less interested in anime than men.

About suicide:
I don't know. Most people are fine of course. I'm fine too. I don't have any mental issues at all. Most people don't.
It's not like 9 out of 10 people commit suicide in Japan. Statistically, 24.4 people commit suicide out of 100,000 people. So that's 0.0244% that a Japanese would commit suicide. But it is high of course. Japan is the 8th highest suicide rated country.

There are many "Otaku" in North America...
We call it agoraphobia/agoraphobic over here.
They obsess over comics, we obsess over bikes.
We're really not that different, many suicides go unnoticed over here? Most of them are labelled drug overdose, or something else, but its all the same in the end. Dead is dead.

Otaku seem to be happy / comfortable to live in this false world of theirs. They even have a 'singing' group with theatres established for them called akb48. They are a group of very young girls in school uniforms who sing cheesy songs which appeals to Otaku. They can't have boyfriends because Otaku must feel as if they have a chance. The akb48 company exploits these poor individuals because of their disposable income.
Anyway enough of that...back to bikes.

Rode both of my 2 primary road bikes today. Commute to the store for a few items this morning and a usual 30 miles ride out to the Nazareth Speedway.

Thank you. It didn't take much more than new tires, a new cassette and some epoxy to secure the right shifter boss. Still doesn't index as well as I'd like, but it's WAY better. I'm debating leaving the graphite paint and putting decals over it. I think it'd look nicely understated.

Civia Bryant, Alfine-8, Gates Belt and BB7 Road discs

Hey, all; recent joiner in this forum. Here are some pics of my road rig: 2011 Civia Bryant with Shimano Alfine-8 IGH, Gates Belt Drive and Avid BB7 Road disc brakes.

Overall shots:

Front and rear disc close-ups:

Drivetrain and dashboard shots:

I'm more of a recreational/fitness rider right now, returning to cycling after a 10-year hiatus and simultaneously making the conversion from mountain biking to road biking. I may consider something faster and a lot lighter down the road, but I think this bike is really helping me rapidly increase my speed (when I first got it a couple of months ago, I could only average 12mph on short, under 10 mile long rides and now I can average 15mph on 30 miles long rides; my speed continues to build at a decent pace).
