Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2006 Novara Strada. First road bike, Craigslist find, $280. Really happy with it so far. Full 105, 700x25 tires for commuting makes for a very smooth ride.

1985 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra. 2014 Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed group. Campagnolo Proton wheelset. My favorite bike so far. The ride I prefer in a steel frame and the simplicity of modern components. Not the lightest bike I've owned, but living in central Indiana a 21lb. bike is light enough.

My old faithfull 2004 Orbea Mitis. 10 years young and the frame still looks the same as the day I bought it.
Having a little rest on the road side today. (^-^)/

My 94 Ritchey Road Logic, running Dura ace 7800 drive train, 600 uletgra brakes, wolbler profile 20 tubular wheels laced to D/A 7400 hubs, weighs in at 8.3 kg which I'm pretty happy with.

That is a sweet looking bike. My 1st mountain bike was a Ritchey rigid. I still regret letting it go. Sigh.

Hey all! This is my first true road bike, and my first post on these forums. This is a completely stock 2014 Trek Madone 2.1 with 105 groupy (shifting is a dream with these). I'm coming from a bottom line Specialized Hardrock mountain bike and a Schwinn big box bike. Just picked it up yesterday and have yet to remove the dork disc and store stickers . Yes I plan on lowering the stem slowly as I get used to just how small it is compared to the Schwinn I road for a while, as the Schwinn was a 58' and this is a 52', haha! Not used to having a bike that fits me yet. I picked this over a few Specialized bikes and a Felt because I'm a sucker for all black . I took a look at some Cannondales but their straight across top tubes bored me. Hoping to get into some group rides and change out a few parts every once in a while, the saddle being the first thing on my list.

I think you made the best choice for a 1st road bike: Decent frame with a nice value on components + a relaxed geometry style.
