Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My “new” six13 has finally come together. I slowly built this up on a pretty tight budget using mostly eBay parts over the past several months as a replacement for the two-sizes-too-big Raleigh grand prix I’ve been riding. It is my first effort at building a bike and I could not be happier with how it turned out. Certainly not all top end components, but it fits and rides beautifully and is a rocket compared to the old bike.

I ride the el best bike in the world for someone of my stature, the KHS flite 747.

It is listed as a 65cm, but that means close to nothing. The seat tube is something like 58cm, and the top tube 62cm. I am 6'7", with a 36" inseem. The 200mm cranks on this bike make a world of difference. I can usually smoke most other riders on short climbs, long climbs are a different story. I recently learned the massive torque of the cranks has been bending the stock chainring, so upgraded to a cold-forged praxis and it has been wonderful. Caused me to lower the handelbars to their lowest position now that I spend so much more time sprinting. I could probably fit a smaller frame, something like a 62cm, but only if it had a high bottom bracket to fit the larger cranks (nothing like this exists). I also have 28c vittoria rubinos riding on 36 spoked rims to accommodate my clyde nature (250lbs, but its all legs, I swear).

I posted this pic because with the lower handelbar position, the bike somehow looks proportional. Maybe its just that I have bonded with the bike and can no longer see her odd proportions. I am used to riding alien looking bikes, sort of like larger versions of the mini-velos, since the 700C wheels look small on the tall frames.

2007 Scattante XRL Carbon SS

I've had really nice bikes in the past - '09 Fuji Team Pro, '10 Fuji SST 2.0, '12 Fuji Altamira Team Edition but got out of cycling last year and sold everything. Now I'm back into it and wanted to either build a bike or find a great deal on one. I couldn't pass this one up.

I just picked this up on Friday for a measly $500 and it's almost brand new.
I believe it's an '07 frame. It got built up in '09 by a friend of the owner.
The owner, an overweight middle aged car salesman, only rode it around his neighborhood once.
It has sat in his garage since then and it shows. The original tires still have the nubs on them and the paint
is nearly flawless.

105 shifters and front derailleur
Ultegra rear derailleur
Ultegra brakes f/r
Forte carbon crank
Forte carbon seat post

This thing rides so smooth and comfortable, but then again I've been riding my brothers old Windsor Bristol that is like riding a tank with square wheels.

What tape are you running? I just wrapped bars with some Service Course CX tape. Zipp - Speed Weaponry | Accessories | Accessories | Service Course cyclocross handlebar tape, and trying to see if I like it. Before I was running 3mm Fizik tape. I might go back to the Fizik tape. I am not used to running a thicker tape (padded). Has anyone else had experince with the Zipp tape?
