Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In my jersey pockets, which causes the jersey to sag/stretch... bottle cages should not be taken for granted! haha And this bike gets a lot of miles.

Exactly. They are one of the best when it comes to value for money. It isn't just restricted to their road bikes either. Their MTBs, commuter bikes and children's bikes are great value also. I loved riding my Giant (RIP).

ride a couple thousand miles on it and if it still feels like an a_$_$_hatchet then try/get a regal/aliante/toupe

I haven't really met anyone who likes the Ponza, the nose actually is higher than the tail of the saddle, and it's all wrong.
Try a Fizik or some of the classic San Marco line (Concor, Rolls, Regal)

I didn't like the Ponza that came on my CAAD8, either. I put on an Arione straight away, and actually liked it pretty well. I have a Brooks Swift on it now, and I might keep it.

Lovin' the Cannondales!

Scored this one on eBay, she'll be the newest addition to the family. Should make a rad criterium bike.

2006 Six13 Team BB30 model.

No wonder...

I gave it an honest try, or at least what I thought was one -- took note of how it felt during the test rides, etc. It just didn't fit well with my butt.

Eh, no biggie; I've seen so many different saddles out there that I can't honestly say what's comfortable for anyone. Durability issues, maybe, but those come down to either factory defects or simple abuse.

If you really want to find the best saddle for you, one option would be competitive cyclist's saddle demo program. For $75 they will send you their 11 best-selling saddles and you get to ride them for a week. If you choose to buy a saddle from them within 30 days, they'll credit $35 toward the purchase. I have the exact same bike and ride a Specialized Toupe. This isn't one of the demo saddles, but out of 11, I'm sure you could find one you like. Or you could ask a local shop that sells specialized saddles to test one out. I can't suggest which saddle would be best for you, but if you don't like the Ponza, I can tell you it should go. An uncomfortable saddle could keep you from riding which would be tragic.

My Old Bike

This is my 1962 Follis, with some upgrades that have made it - as the mechanic at my LBS put it - "a nice mix, like people in the U.S."

Originally all French, I've made some changes over the years. Cottered cranks were ditched in favor of a Sugino drivetrain. Whatever the saddle was, it's long gone (although I still have the original Mavic tool kit that came with the bike). Hubs are 1976 vintage Phil Woods and I picked up the French Super Champions rims perhaps a decade or more ago. At the moment I'm riding it with toe clips; sometimes I switch to clipless.

The Follis still boasts the original bars, Beborex brakes and brake levers, friction downtube rear de. shift lever, and the "suicide shifter."

Despite the really interesting stuff on that Follis (and that's the first really good pic I've seen of a "suicide shifter" ), my only question is, how do you like that Brooks bag?

Which is why I've been perplexed when I've seen Ponzas on road bikes (even some new ones). I suppose if you ride on the nose of your saddle it could be good....

The Selle San Marco Ponza Trilon saddle is Selle San Marco's entry-level triathlon saddle with extra padding in nose to give more comfort in the aero position. The Selle San Marco Ponza Trilon saddle has a waterproof soft-touch cover with lightweight CroMoly rails. Nylon-charged polypropylene shell. 227 grams. Available in Black (BLK) only.

^^^ Neat bike. Interesting brake cable routing. Wouldn't running your rear cable in front of the bar make for a much smoother run?

Actually, adding about three inches would make it smoother and more visually balanced, as the front seems longer. Also, if they moved one in front of the bar it would only be right to move the other in front as well.
