Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

FYI: Taste is something we learn.

We don’t come out of our’s mothers belly craving a BigMac. However, if our mother raises us on BigMacs, it does make us think we need them.

That is a perfectly valid reason; it is not based on misinformation or on erroneous arguments about health or nature. I respect that completely.

For me personally, that was just not strong enough of a reason to kill animals that I had raised from little babies. I found many, many other delicious things to eat and the craving for meat is long gone

There is a world of plant based food beyond lentil burgers.

In my admittedly limited research it appears as though Hitler considered himself a vegetarian but would eat meat on occasion. He was also a "vegetarian" primarily for health reasons.

But who really cares?

Hitler was also a strong proponent of DHMO as well with some records showing at least daily use.

I never mentioned his name, you did. The amusing thing about messin' with veg-ilantes is how similar it is to messin' with fundamentalist christians. These threads come up pretty frequently and they all really belong in P&R.

And that is exactly the reason I think people should be fully aware of where their food comes from. If you can't kill it yourself, you shouldn't be eating it IMHO. The animal makes a sacrifice for us, and the only way to fullly appeciate that is to do the deed yourself.

It always amazes me when I tell people I raise chickens for eggs and they give me a disgusted look and ask me how I can eat the eggs??? As if their eggs don't shoot out of a chicken's a$$.

I was really trying to respect your position when you said you ate them for the taste and to satiate a craving, but you are deluded if you think the animal is making a sacrifice for your sake. You are taking it's life from it by force. A better way to truly appreciate it would be to not kill it. The idea that the animal gives itself so that we may live is a romanticized fantasy.

If anyone here really believes it’s their natural instinct to eat meat - like a carnivore. It would also be your natural instinct to rip the head off an animal and eat it raw - like a true carnivore does.

Until you choose to kill and eat a raw animal with your bare hands, over a plate of pasta & vegetables, don’t even try to convince me it’s your instinct to eat meat.

BTW: Ordering a burger at the drive-thru is not carnivores behavior.

why does either side care what the other does, they obviously dont agree and never will.

I ate meat when I was young, I was vegetarian for 5 years, I eat meat again. Overall I cant tell too much of a difference in anything. There were no less cows killed because of my actions, just like there arent any more killed now that I eat a steak once in a while.

~3% of the population is vegetarian, 1% of them is vegan.
so in theory they save a couple hundred thousand cows a year = cheaper beef for me.

Look it up, early humans were scavengers. They ate mostly vegitation but did eat what meat they could find and hunted small animals, then progressing to hunting larger animals as well after they figured out the whole tool thing. Humans have cooked meat for hundreds of thousands of years, so it is instinct in that sense. nice try though.

Hey, let's also debate man-made global warming, Wal-Mart, and whether Scooter Libby should be pardoned! Then we can have some real fun. Oh yeah, we should mention a bike once in a while to keep it a bike forum.
