Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who's stem is + or - degree?

Just wondering how many people have their stem in a + degree or how many ride it -

I ride a -6 degree. i know it's a comfort thing and as the years go on I will probably have to go +, but I don't like the look or feel of a road bike with a + degreee stem...............

a better way to put it, what is peoples seat->Bar drop? stem angle is one part, frame geometry and spacer height also play a major role.

Stem angle is somewhat irrelevant as long as overall geometry meets your requirements. I have several bikes, all have differant sized stems and angles. None are the same.

They range from...

+20deg (110mm) for my MTB,

+10deg (100mm) for my climbing bike,

-6deg (120mm) for my Ti cruiser,

-17deg (126mm) for my old steel commuter with a quill stem.

All have the same reach, with a 3 inch saddle to bar drop. That's what's most important.

-6 w/no spacers, although I should probably have one if I don't increase my flexibility.

Yup. Keep in mind that in the old days with threaded headsets and quill stems, the stem angle on a race bike was usually 17 deg. 17 + 73 = 90 = parallel to the ground.

Wouldn't a comparatively pointless question be "How long are your arms? Do you bend your elbows?"
