Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

De Rosa Neo Primato

Hey everyone I'm new to this forum as well as newer bikes. I just bought a De Rosa Neo Primato and its 20 years older than anything else I ride, but I had some questions about compatibility with different parts. Do quill stems work with new Chris King headsets? Is downtube shifting still an option even if most newer bikes use the brake lever shifter things? Anyways, it rides wonderfully, I just am not much of a fan of the "carbon or nothing" mentality. Thank you.

First off, let's get a few dimensions down so we are on the same page.

Your frame has a 1" threaded steerer. So, you will need a 1" Threaded Headset. And yes, Chris King makes new 1" threaded headsets. These use the compression nut for apllying the tension to the headset. Also, there is an additional lock nut on top to prevent the compression nut from coming loose.

After it's installed, you will use a standard quill stem, which is inserted into the steel steerer. On top of the quill is a allen head for tightening the quill into place. This allows you to easily adjust the stem height and handlebar alignment.
