Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fathers day and Birthday gifts

I made out pretty good my birthday and fathers day fall around the same time and this year BOOM same day. So from my son I got a Novara jersey and my wife got me a new headlight and my sister in law and her husband gave me a 50 dollar gift card from Performance bike and my mother and father in law gave me fifty bucks and my oldest daughter gave me a very nice book about the history of the Schwinn company. We had a big party to celebrate all the dads in the family and my birthday, nice day for all of us guys in the family.

I gave my dad two Calvin and Hobbes collections and a Pearls Before Swine collection. He turned 50 by the way. I don't buy him biking stuff cuz he has to obsess over what he is going to buy and it is just too hard to find the right biking gift for him.

Wow I think oilman is leading the pack so far. My wife got me jerseys and snazzy sigg bottles. The best part is she got my daughter a pink jersey and bottle. I didn't even know they make jerseys that small but hell she is gonna be the coolest lil munchkin on the bike trail.

My 6 month pregnant wife and my 4yo little girl got up early, drove an hour and came with me to sit in the hot sun while I raced a crit yesterday. Hearing my daughter cheer for her dad as I raced by was the only present I wanted.

My birthday falls around Father's Day also. My birthday is today. My girls gave me a Rudy Project Ayron helmet which I used this morning while riding my age, 45 miles(years).

I had to work for about 12 hours, but when I got home my wife and daughter had prepared a very nice meal for me. After dinner they had some mushy cards and a cool little digital camera for me. It was a very nice end to a long day.

I managed to get a ride in only because I rode to work.

My wife gave me a wireless router so I can use the laptop computer in front of the TV without dragging wires around. It makes reading the BikeForum more enjoyable.

Thanks
My daughter loves to come to the races but because of how early I have to leave and the time waiting around there while I warm up, etc. not to mention the race itself, it's a hardship on my wife to occupy the little one. So I really appreciate it when she does come. And I think she's good luck cause I always seem to do better with her there.

Its good to see that I'm not the only one with a birthday that fell on fathers day (June 17th). I am a roadie, but my wife and son got me a mountain bike to use for "family bike rides." Should be fun and hopefully it will make it easier for me to dial down the speed for more recreational rides. Got a rhubarb pie too!

My birthday was Friday but we celebrated on Saturday and then fathers day on Sunday. She ordered a Atmos helmet on sale at Performance + the 25% club rebate and 25 cent shipping. I got in a couple of nice rides in between thunder storms. Overall a very nice weekend.

Our anniversary is the 30th. My three boys birthdays are also in June on the 7th, 16th, and the 19th.

my older bothers got the credit card and the card, so he bought my dad a propane tank guage, so we don't run out of propane(my dad doesn't use the grill), and somehting tom get the crap out of between the slats on our deck. Strange, but my dad never wants gifts, because he doesn't need anything, so every gift gets returned.

9 weeks old last Saturday. She's not terribly interested in chasing balls or playing in the water yet, but once she gets the hang of it, my kids and I will have endless fun with her at the park, at the lake, etc.

My wife and son gave me an I-Pod nano. Perfect timing since I broke the USB connector on my old mp3 player. Yay!
