Used to, not any more; just stopped enjoying it. While driving somewhere for a race, found myself wishing I was simply on my bike out for 6 hr ride...

40 years old, not in racing shape, busy job, wife and two kids to attend to.
Then again, I wouldn't call myself an ardent cyclist either, so maybe the question is not directed to me.

Free will.... and... I work nights (4-midnightish), so no weekday racing for me... and since I work nights, no weekend mornings for me either. Plus, if I did, I'd have to come up with some sort of training routine and all that to make it worth my while, and that would just suck the joy right out of cycling.
The only plus side I've found to racing is it would be a good excuse to buy a power meter and really expensive carbon tubulars

I've only been riding road for like 6 months and havent even got round to joining a club yet. I'd like to race eventually, I just don't think I'm there yet;
1) bike- handling skills (inc group riding skills)
2) fitness

I'm trying to race this year (2 down, 1 this Sunday, and hopefully one or two more by year's end), but frankly I'm finding it difficult to get in adequate training to be anything other than a big ol' loogie getting spit out the back of the pack early on. Between work and my commute to/from work, I'm gone from 6am to 6pm Mon-Fri. I have a family as well and can't be bailing on my wife too often either. Racing all the time is a waste of entry funds and time if I have difficulty just staying with the pack.
I plan on staying on a team next year as well and hope to continue to build on my fitness, but if it weren't for the friends I've made on my team I'd probably bail and just enjoy riding for riding's sake.
Racing doesn't put money in my wallet.

It would turn my wife into a nervous wreck. She is worried enough with me just road riding.

+1 to fitness
Don't want to spend all my time on the bike going towards training for crits. Would rather enjoy the rides I get out for.
Don't have the time to dedicate to putting in the hours needed to race at a level I'd be happy competing in.

If you're going to do something- do it right. I'm not all that fast so I at least want to make sure I give a respectable performance.
Until then I'll just enjoy each and every ride (but I'd like to race someday).

Tried it once and I suck
got dropped by the 5's, then lapped by the masters 60+. Like I said, I suck. The 5's around here average 22-25 mph for the whole race. I suck.

working up to it.. I think next season will be my first racing season. I will probably buy a new bike so that my sora shifters are upgraded . I have hard time finding training time as well. I have class year round.
