Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recovery drink after hard rides.

Myoplex protein drinks 43g of protein lots of potassium and sodium etc for breakfast or 3:30ish snack.

When your starving, sometimes you just gotta eat. I sometimes after a hard ride go to sonic and get a nice and good for you oreo shake Just gotta have the sugar sometimes.

Eat snacks at around 3:30 each day, IE cliff bars, another myoplex, anything good for you. Then you wont be OMG starving by 5. It takes a while to get used to but you will like that a lot after a while.

My two cents

Pistachio nuts. Handful usually works well.

Fruit, carrots, or other fibrous food.

Also, you could just eat more. Unless you are gaining weight, there shouldn't be a problem. If you're trying to lose weight, well, you'll have to live with feeling a bit hungry from time to time.

Two Big Macs, Supersized fries, a large chocolate shake, a hot apple pie, and a small diet Coke (so you don't over-do it).

If that dosen't work, we will send you to BK, their stuff has way more calories.

I love it when people come into my wife's cafe and get a few cookies and then a diet coke. Or the 400lb woman yesterday that said the sandwich was too dry and wanted more mayo, and bought her self a diet coke. Then two hours later complained that the price of a smoothie was too high and wanted it for free.

i had this problem last summer. . .i started eating at least 4 meals a day, trying to work in lots of carbs and protein. i also drink 2 protein shakes (24g of protein each) a day. i can't get too high tech and formulaic about my diet. . .just keep eating. the protein shakes also really help. i also eat clif bars, gu shots and drink cytomax while on the bike and have another cytomax bottle when i get home. all three are high-carb.

my diet in general includes lots of bread, pasta, rice, olive oil, fish, tofu, cheese, peanut butter, fruit (fructose="good sugar"/carbs), beans, green veggies. . .i don't know how you feel about food in general, but i'd encourage you to get the calories/carbs/protein w/o preservatives. your body will thank you.

hope this helps.

keep riding alot, after awhile the hunger pangs will subside by quite a bit, its just a phase

takes a long time for regular exercise to get your body to overcome the anti-starvation reflex which is usually followed by eating too much and yes fats will help satiate the appetite to an extent anyway

eat right and keep exercising, there arent any shortcuts

I was in a head-on car crash my second week of college and had my face wired shut for 2 months. After 2 weeks I didn't feel like eating anything. I had only liquids during that time and applesauce for a month after the wiring came out. I went through Hell week at my frat like that.

Haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but avoid anything with High Frutose Corn Syrup (which includes premade gatorade). One of the attributes of HFCS is its ability to weaken the "I'm Full Feeling" This is why its not very hard to go to 711 and finish the biggest cup of coke possible, but if you tried to do that in water, you'd be in cramps.

good to see others who share the love of nutella

although I'd probably go looking for a new jar rather than my driveway...

Use to eat it as a little kid in Germany. When we moved to the US, it was hard to come by, however lately it seems to be every where.

+1 for Nutella

Seems to me the best way to avoid hunger is to eat more food. By this I mean food that is fiber rich and caloric sparse. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the best source. You can eat a lot more volume without adding uneeded calories, fat and chemicals. I work for the goverment as well and I bring at least 2 pieces of fruit everyday. One for around 10:00 am and one for around 3:00 pm. Not only does it control the hunger it gives me an excuse to leave my desk and go outside. Hell we aren't working anyway we are on BF!

Certain Fruits and Vegetables have essentially negative Calories, because it takes more energy to digest them than it provides.

thirst is often mistaken for hunger, the body's acts in very similar ways, you are interpreting your deep thirst as hunger. If you ignore thirst for too long, the body tells you that you are hungry because it needs liquid, even if it's in the form of chicken, fruit, lettuce etc... A good sign of thirst is if you are not pissing within an hour or two at max of a ride. and within 4 hours you should have a second good piss that is no longer yellow, or it only has a slight tint. and again at 6 hours another full piss which is also light in color. if your not having at minimum 3 good pisses within 6 hours it means you are dehydrated.

Also if this hunger is coming on the day before or after a ride, then what you need is fiber. good ole deluxe fiber! insoluble fiber. pickup some fiber1 cereal, the honey nut one tastes fantastic and has like 14g of fiber per service, I'll double up on that. Bars can add some fiber, but you really need "real" food. synthetic and processes foods just don't do the same thing. Eat raspberries, oranges, celery, leather sole shoes and any vegetable or fruit with good natural fiber content. An apple a day...

Fiber will help you loose weight, prevents diabetes, cleans your body out, increases your metabolism, and reduces hunger. it's about as close to an edible miracle as you can get. the insoluble fiber is slow to digest and releases carbs slowly into your system,

For the next few weeks count both your soluble and insoluble fiber intake, it should be no less then 20g, but try for 30g's a day. and again, the natural fiber is better then processed fiber.

Water, fiber, water, fiber... then you can do anything else you want to satisfy your hunger.

Loading up on protein will not address your hunger, the body can only utilize like 20g's of protein a day when it needs it... taking in 40g's or more is just going to shiz.. literally.

and lvleph is correct, fruits like pineapple are negative, eat 100 calories in pineapple and your metabolism goes up and digestion both knock out about 150 calories.

Lastly if this doesn't work... go see a doctor for a basic checkup and if all clear, go see a professional dietitian.

I do endurox right after a hard/long ride, but it's still a good idea to follow it up with foods that are moderate in glycemic index—like doughnuts, soft drinks, ice cream, or popcorn. Steak tacos are good, too.

Nutella? I haven't had that in years. What exactly is in it? Or what's it made of?

Why do I think of it as a kind of candy? Am I wrong?

Chocolate hazelnut spread. I have photos of a fat woman spreading it on her breasts, which might be preferable to a driveway, too.
