Assos Bib Sizing

I am looking for some help on ordering a pair of Assos bibs. I am 5'10" but with a short inseam of 29.5. I have a 35" waist and weigh around 187 but am losing weight and will prob end up around 165.

I am unfamiliar with the fit of the Assos and do not have any to try on in the area. Thanks.
Tommy

Here is the recommended sizing chart from Assos.

Small (S) 5'2" to 5'4"
Medium (M) 5'4" to 5'8"
Large (L) 5'8 to 6'0"
X-Large (XL) 6'0" to 6"2"
XX-Large (XLG) 6'2" to 6'4" and taller w/ Slender to Medium Build
XXX-Large(TIR) 6'2" to 6'4" and taller
w/ Larger Build

I don't know about the Large size... I have a 33" waist and weigh 190 lbs, am 5'-10" which 30" inseam... Medium Assos F1.Uno's bibs fit perfect. I will say that Assos fit tighter than some other brands. This isn't a comment because I "should" have a bigger size... Two shops that I buy stuff at both say that and a number of friends who own Assos have made the same comment.

forget about their sizing chart. Whatever size you wear in Pearl Izumi, Performance or some other domestic bib get one size up from it. I wear L in PI and wear an XL in Assos. It's how everyone sizes their Assos as well.

I'm very close to the op's size and wear the XL in Assos bibs. A large would not be fun. Particularly for my wife.

I'm in the same boat. I'm shopping for a new bib after starting off with Pearl Izumi attack shorts. I'm about 6', 175 lbs, 35 waist. I found the medium PI shorts too tight and the large PI shorts too loose.

The store that I visited only had M and L available in Assos bibs. I tried on a L and it was a snug fit. Somewhat tight on the sensitive region when I stood upright. But the store clerk said that was normal.

How tight are bibs supposed to feel anyways? Snug but comfortable? Extremely skintight stretchy? Or somewhat loose (form fitting but not stretchy)?

I decided to pass and wait to see if the store had XL available. Been debating on whether to go back and just get the L.

I wear a L in most other bibs, and I tried on some Assos today. Not only did the L fit well, but the M felt pretty good.

Everyone is different and you will not know what works best for you until you try !!!

Keep in mind, Assos is cut so that if fits best when seated and pedaling a bicycle... Not standing...

I think this is the main reason most people feel sizing up a size helps, but may not be the best for everyone.

The sizing chart I see on the Assos site is slightly different:

XS 5' 1" - 5' 3"
S 5' 3" - 5' 5"
M 5' 5" - 5' 10"
L 5' 10" - 6'
XL 6' 1" - 6' 3"
XLG 6' 4" - 6' 5 "
TIR = XLG but wider

I'm 5'7", 32" (cycling) inseam, 130lbs soaking wet. Based on height alone, it seems I should go for the Medium, but since I'm pretty thin, would the Small be a better fit?

Also, trying to decide between the F1.Equipe and the F1.13 S2. I use a Toupe (thin, hard) saddle and mostly do rides between 50mi and 100mi. Oh, and I am trying to fend off some saddle sores - am I better off with the thicker Mille pad in the Equipe or the thinner pad in the 13 S2?

you're in NY, you have ample opportunities to try them on and see for yourself.

depends on what you're used to. the 'thinner' pad has worked fine for me on 6+ hour rides.

I just got back from riding a 160 mile ride in my new Mille bibs. The pad is extremely thick. It was uncomfortable for the first 200 miles or so that I put on it. About halfway through this ride the shorts disappeared (figuratively). I completed the 160 miles with little to no saddle soreness. I did all of thie on a Toupe. Amazing.

If you're willing to go to the 13 I would try that out. The chamois is thinner and probably more comfortable.

+1 - on botto's comment about trying them on. You just won't know until you try them on. Now that I have a few rides on mine I would agree with everyone's comments about going a size larger than what you "normally" wear. I ended up with "L" which are actually perfect. I wear "L" in almost all other bibs, but honestly they are all a tad big right now. I could probably wear "M" in the others which makes my experiences fit what others have said.

You should forget about getting bibs until your weight/size stablizes, get shorts instead.

I wear medium in PI, large in Assos. I'm 5'7", 160 lbs, 30" inseam, 34" waist.

you're buying bibs that are a size too large.

Not bibs, I have the ASSOS H FI Mille Half Short (2 pairs). This size fits me like a glove. I'm sure that the straps on the size large bibs would be too long that's why I've never ordered any. No one carries Assos around here so there's no way to try them on first.

I think the OP will have the same problem, the size that fits his waist will not fit his height.

to me, leg fit is the most important fit in bibs, because too big of a leg is too big of a short. the straps would be second, because even though they may feel snug when standing, they will feel better when in a riding position. to me, waist size is the last thing that matters when ordering bibs, because there really is no waist...

How can you be willing to spend this much on a pair of shorts, yet unwilling to order a couple of sizes and return those that don't fit? Are you poor or something?

Who's gonna accept returns of bike shorts??? That's like returning underwear.

so if you take a pair of bibs into the fitting room at your LBS, and they don't fit, do you hand them back to the owner so he can dispose of them? i would certainly hope not...

The difference in your fitting room example is the shop knows I didn't go riding with the bibs. I know bike shops here that won't take back a stem - I assume a shop like that isn't taking back shorts.

But if you know retailers/etailers that will, let me know.

Performance, REI, Nashbar, Colorado Cyclist, Excel Sports, PBK...

Can you name one online retailer that won't take them back? Just go to Info/Help sections on the site and see that they'll all take stuff back, even if tried on, within 30 days of receipt.

I've ridden (and washed) bibs and returned them...wasn't happy with them. STP didn't care...generous return policy.
