Buying another ride: more of less $$ on second??

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a nice road bike now: Bianchi w/ full Campy. Also have a Touring bike--a heavy as a tank. But, now I'm thinking of buying another road bike. Would you buy up or down when you love the only road bike you have?

down. get a bike you don't love as much. bike jealousy can be an evil thing and if your old bike doesn't like the new bike, you are doomed to nonstop mechanical problems for the life of the new bike. seriously. don't mess with a formula that works!

I would spend less, find something that can run fenders, and promptly install them.

That or a fixed gear/singlespeed bike.

Good, call. Find a nice vintage frame and tool around on ebay finding era appropriate parts to build her up with. Its really fun hunting for the right parts and its a nice little project to work on. Lots of great deals on older parts and new old stock gear on ebay (and in dusty corners of bike shops).

Not to mention your new bike will be less jealous.

What is the purpose of buying another bike? You have to figure that out first.

Do something different. If you have a nice roadie and a nice tourer, go fixed gear or cyclocross or vintage.

(Or a vintage fixed gear cyclocross.... I believe Cynikal has one. )

Maybe a nice townie?

Scour the shops. Peruse the classifieds. Visit every cycling oriented website you possibly can.

Go with the one that talks to you...there is only one out there right now, whether it's a full bike or just a frame looking to be built. You'll know it when you hear it.
