As much as I'd like to do a landmark annual ride like that, the thought of trying to share the road with 8,999 other cyclists, the majority of whom have few pack riding skills, sounds kind of scary to me. A co-worker's son rode it last year and reported a sizeable pileup right at the start when everyone was leaving UW (I think that's where she said it happened) when some guy in the middle of a massive-sized pack abruptly stopped for whatever unknown reason and promptly caused a few dozen people around him to crash into each other...
I really would like to do the Courage Classic, RAMROD, RSVP, perhaps, etc., but I'm just not sure about STP. The first three I mentioned there would seem to attract much more serious cyclists, hopefully weeding out those who aren't confident in riding a straight line with people on their left, their right, in front, in back, etc.
Still though, I'll probably cave in and do the STP at some point. I'm sure I'll still enjoy it regardless.

I'm doing my first STP this year. It'll be 2 days, but I think I could slug through a one-dayer if I had 12 hours.
My favorite "epic" rides are usually hilly, rural and scenic without crowds. Attributes which are not associated with STP
For me I just want to check it off the list, since 8999 other people have done it. RSVP and some of the other rides mention do sound more appealling.
For 2-day folks, where are people staying?

If anyone needs a registration, I have one but I'm not going. Note where I'm from and figure on airfare and hotel and you can see why, it just wasn't worth it to just do this ride.
I've done it long ago in the past and wanted to do it again but again it isn't worth it. My fastest was just over 10 hours, with 4:15 for the first hundred. I was faster then than I am now.

I'm not going to worry much about time, just to eat a lot and ride as fast as I sustainably can, while sucking as much wheel as possible. It will be my first (and probably last) STP.

I like the two day event with the Tour high lights on TV and a at the university in Centrailia. One day is a hard days work but its worth the tee shirt Taking off at the first announcement andstaying at the U of W the night before.

LOL
I'm coming up for the ride from SoCal - will keep browsing the PacNW forums to figure out if and where a group of BFers are meeting up to ride together so I can meet some of you and have company to ride with.

Enjoy folks. I'll probably see some of you at the finish. I'll likely be at the Group Health tent handing out stuff. (Wife rides for the team)

I was planning on going this year but I am flying out to meet some more family on my dad's side that weekend. I guess I'll have a lot of time to train for next year.
