Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Me? I'm a recovering rock and roller and have a small but quality electric guitar stash (my 2001 single cut PRS is my favorite to play). I've also been a fairly avid golfer for the last 10-15 and have way more golf clubs than any single person has a right or need to own.

Guitars and amps. RC cars and planes. All kinds of music and movies. Sports memorabilia. I have an array of billiards cues yet only play on my table a couple of times a month.

And my wife is into jewelry (diamonds). So obviously I am broke

Records. Yes, those old-fashioned vinyl thingees with the grooves on them.

I sold off my guitar and bass amps to finance the bike I'm presently riding. Mild nerve damage in my left arm makes playing an iffy (and clumsy) proposition, though I still pick up my old Larrivee' from time to time.

Hummels. Heads. Hummels and heads, hummels and heads.

Ugh, I cannot believe I'm posting this, I bought one of those Dept 56 village pieces as a gift for someone and got hooked on them. To the point of buying styrofoam hunks, steel brushes, and all sorts of other gear to shape village setpieces. They were really quite good. An expensive and ultimately insanity-inducing hobby because when you move, guess what, you get to break down the village you so expertly built. Thus, I've graduated to hummels and heads, much more portable.

I also collect lp records. I know a guy in his 60's that's been collecting and has an entire basement filled with records. I just have about 2,000.

I read a lot and have a house full of books. I cleaned out a lot of paperbacks and hardcovers we no longer wanted and gave them to a nearby library.

I used to collect coins.

My wife and I collect art. At this point though, we need to get rid of some stuff if we want to have room for new stuff. Plenty of room in the garage for more bicycles.

expensive hobbies...

dunno if you could call it collecting, but i was a dnb dj in college, got quite a bit of vinyl.
fish. i've had aquariums for the last 6 years and i can't stop getting animals to put in them. it was manageable when i was doing fresh water. but now that i've switched to salt water it's gotten kind of ridiculous. though since cycling season started that's slowed down a little bit

Guitars... two expensive habits are not good ... although I've seriously thinned down the guitar collection, albeit not technically a collection, but more as a "one for every genre" type thing. Bikes are being thinned out too.

I've got my childhood Fender Duo Sonic II yet...worth a fortune I'm sure...maybe I could sell it for a new Pinarello?

I collect cycads, but I'm not one of the crazy collectors. The most expensive one I have cost me about $400. It is a nice sized Dioon edule.

Watches (mainly Panerai's and Rolex sport models), guitars, and weird Ferrari stuff. Used to collect (more like accumulate) air-cooled BMW motorcycles. I never really thought of myself as a collector, but I've found that I've apparently saved up hundred of concert ticket stubs through the years. A lot of them are getting pretty faded now, and I really should try to have them matted and framed somehow. I knew I'd seen SRV play quite a few times, but in casual looking through the stubs I came across at least a dozen from his shows! I also have a lot of concert playbill art, many of which are signed and numbered by the artist. I don't really consider it a collection, just cool stuff to hang on the walls (along with the guitars).

Firearms, electronics (computers, iPod's, TV's, stereo's, etc.), MP3's, DVD's, books, and hard liquor (I keep a well stocked bar in my apartment).

1) Pins of all the places I've been. I attach these to the front of my handlebar bag and they make me smile when I ride.

2) Education. I've taken about 140 post secondary courses ranging in length from weekend courses to full length University courses in a wide range of subjects ... and I'm still going!! I've signed up for another 10 starting in September!!
