Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Perfect ride (for the burbs)

I wanted a hard ride today, but it was really dark skies and kinda late so I decided to drive and go to the only place around here that has hills. In 8 miles, there is one small hill, a steep 80 foot climb and then about a mile of steady slow incline, a good descent (with wind in your face), and another half mile of climbing. All in all about 350 feet of climbing per laps. I felt fast from the very start. Did 3 laps, all 23 minutes each, and averaged 21 mph and 170bpm for the three laps. For some reason my garmin wasn't triggering its auto lap function, so I don't know what the breakdown per lap was exactly but whatever. Weather was perfect, I felt strong, couldn't ask for more. Hopefully I'll be able to pull the same performance on Saturday's crit

(for those in SE michigan, here is the ride if you want to do it...
