Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spinergy Stealth PBOs

I'm shopping for a new pair of wheels for a build. My budget is about $800. I absolutely cannot go above that. I started off looking to spend $400, but you know how that goes. I did a search and it seems that opinions are mixed regarding Spinergy and that in the past their products were iffy, but consensus seems to be that they're turning their image around.

Does anyone have know of any cheap online source for these wheels?

I'm still open to suggestion, so if you know of any similarly priced wheels that you'd recommend, I'd like to hear it. I'd also like more opinions regarding this wheel set, if you've got a valid one.

In addition to searching the forums, I did search froogle. I'm not a newb. I guess I should also mention that, yes I know that eBay exists.

It's not the lightest wheelset (but hey, it never claimed to be an ultralight climbing wheel) and the hubs seem a bit stiff to me (compared to my Rolf Prima Elan Aero), but it does what it's supposed to do (be nice an aero). I'm pleased with mine. And it's quite a looker. It's now my picture taking wheelset as well as being my aero wheelset.

I got these wheels and ended up selling them after only a few rides... I really wanted to love them, but they just made me work to hard in the hills. It wasn't the weight, they just didn't feel stiff enough for me. Almost. But not quite.

That said, I like S T I F F wheels, so them not measuring up to my standards of stiffness doesn't mean they aren't what the general populace would consider stiff. I've heard them referred to as stiffer than Mavic SL's. This is false, but not by much.

The rest of the wheel was spot on- they spun up quickly for heavy wheels, they seemed pretty damn durable, and of course they look really, really hot.

No problems with Spinergy hubs or overall quality these days- the wheel is an oustandingly manufactured product, and Spinergy's customer service is some of the best in the business.

If I didn't spend all day in the hills I wouldn't have sold them.

I absolutely loved mine and actually regret selling them. To me they were very fast, climbed great and just extremely comfortable. As far as comfort goes I actually prefer them to my Zipp 404's. For the price they are extremely hard to beat.
