Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saw the new Madone

Wow and I walked right past the thing and didn't notice! No overly obnoxious Disco graphics, no "Trek" printed allover, and it looked like a Specialized, but it's not! It really is the bomb man.

I'm just waiting for mine to come in to the LBS. I'm a taller rider, and it's looking like I'll have to wait until about the end of August to get the right size.

I saw it as well... the Orcaness diminishes on closer viewing. The only thing Orca about the top tube is the graphics. There's no crease in the tube like on the Orbeas. The white is just painted on.

Its still hella sexy... just not for so much lucre... I'll pass

The 90mm bottom bracket is amazing...the rest is cool too but I love that detailing. I want to pull out a front fork and look at the re-shaping of that too. Looks cool in concept.

Saw one today too here in Melbourne (Australia). Bike shop said the distributor had been keeping quiet, waiting till the 1st July to release them.

Very cool looking bike, but I didn't like the grey Ultegra SL.

How was the paint finish? My LBS got three frames in and the finish was so bad they sent them back to Trek, only to get three other frames with the same rough finish (orange peel on topcoat).

has anyone tried the Trek Project One paintjobs in the past? Waste of money or a good investment?

Are you ever with a clue?

Re-READ genius -this is a complaint of the bike shop owner and Trek dealer, and not a problem with any other Treks I've seen so far, I'm just trying to figure out if its a batch problem. Of these frames I've seen, while I really like the design and graphics, the top coat finish is horrible, and no where near a Trek 1000.

The dealer is upset because every one who has come to the shop has complained about this.

Yes I have a Project One paintjob for a 2004 2300. Metalflake yellow and I left the fork and the stays nude carbon. Very nice job and have not had any issues with the paint at all. IMO I think that you might get a better paintjob from the Project One since it is custom, instead of factory applied. Plus, you can design it to your liking.

they use to have grey ultegra components back in the eighties.
Still have the brakes and down-tube shifters.

So like I thought this would be a link to a website where someone buys a new Madone and saws it in half.

That would be *****in'.

We have the black and white one at our shop, paint looks awesome. Haven't seen the orange one yet so I'm guessing the paint was bad only on the orange or just that small batch.

My guess is that "orange peel" refers to texture, not colour.

Saw the 5.5 today (mid level CF).

Looked pretty good; more subtle than on the website:
