Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra on 1600?

Well, I was test riding a Trek 1600 at my LBS a few days ago (as a side note, I bought it). Now, I always thought that they had 105 parts all around. But while observing the derailleurs, I noticed that they were Ultegra. I inquired about this, and I was told this was normal. Have they always been this way, or is this just new on 2007's?

As another side note, I got the bike for $1150 after tax. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

as far as i know its standard, thats what i think is the main difference between the 1500 and the 1600 because the 1500 is full 105,but i got my 1600 about a month and i love it.. enjoy

doesn't the 1600 have external bearings on the crank and the 1500 doesn't?

The marketing difference between the 1500 and the 1600 for 2007 is that the 1600 has a 10-speed rear shifter while the 1500 is 9-speed. The 1600 is also spec'ed with an Ultegra RD, though my 1500 came with one, too...
