If you shave your legs, how about your arms?

Seems like the same logic that applies to legs would apply but numerous recent threads just focus on the legs.

It occurred to me that years back when I dumped my bike, the road rash on one of my arms was significantly worse than my legs. Ground lots of tiny gravel and dirt in the wounds. It was tons of fun to clean out, especially because until my mid 20's, I always refused to use hydrogen peroxide or any antiseptic that didn't hurt because I'd been taught at an early age that if a treatment hurts, that's how you know it's working.

why not shave the head too ;)

Blue Jays 07-13-07 10:17 AM

Armpits should be shaved by both men and women not for performance and/or crash reasons...but for hygienic reasons. Now, back to our regularly-scheduled bodyshaving thread. :)

I shave head, arms, legs, chest, etc...
The Norelco Body Groom works great...as does the Mach 3!

Come to think of it, I did do a face plant once took awhile to recover from. My chin was all messed up (good thing I'd shaved), but it appears that shaving beyond that is purely optional -- eyebrows and most of the head get protection from the helmet.

FlashBazbo 07-13-07 10:26 AM

Leg shaving is primarily for the masseuse. I don't have my arms massaged.

dlew308 07-13-07 10:31 AM

lol please don't shave the eye brows and use a marker to make new ones a la that seinfeld episode with uncle leo :)

+1

That thing is awesome. However I prefer the mach 3 for my legs and head. I don't shave my chest due to having a small gut and lovely cycling tan. No way is my shirt coming off unless I am swimming. :p

I've never had road rash on my arms. Never occurred to me to shave them.

Doggus 07-13-07 12:35 PM

Shaved legs, clipped arms.

Not true.

Yeah what do you do about this? After a few sunny days here, I look like a police car with my shirt off. I kept my shirt on and felt like a dork at a crowded beach last weekend.

DataJunkie 07-13-07 12:53 PM

Either tan or stay away from the beach. Where I live staying away from the few beaches that exist around here is fairly easy.

caloso 07-13-07 01:08 PM

Of course not. People would think I was some sort of freak.

Incorrect. Armpit odor comes from sweat getting trapped in the hair allowing bacteria to grow. The bacteria causes the odor, not sweat. From a personal hygiene standpoint less body hair = less odor.

Shave all over with the Norelco Bodygroom, except for clippers at 2mm for head.

Razor shaving takes too long.

Eatadonut 07-13-07 01:41 PM

I'll shave my arms the day I shave my chest.

If I wanted to feel like a cactus all the time, I'd roll myself in tree sap and glass dust.

The Bodygroom doesn't really get close enough for that two-day-old rough, itchy stubble. Just close enough for a well-groomed look and feel.

Just another reason I don't bother with a razors anymore.

badfishgood 07-13-07 01:56 PM

I shave my balls too... Just in case.

GuitarWizard 07-13-07 01:59 PM

I thought about shaving my arms, as other than my head, that's the only place that has hair. But, I dunno......haven't gotten myself to do it.

colorider 07-13-07 02:16 PM

Just curious, I'm not a racer just a recreational rider. Does shaving your arms, legs, whatever really make you noticeably faster or is it more psychological? In the animal world I know sharks have rough skin which supposedly makes them swim faster. Hey I saw it on Discovery channel. Wouldn't hair act similarly?

CastIron 07-13-07 02:21 PM

Somebody please pass the popcorn, we haven't had one of these in a while.

caloso 07-13-07 02:27 PM

Here's my reason for shaving my legs:

5% ease of applying sunblock, moisturizer, etc.
5% ease of pulling out rocks and asphalt after falls
39% identifies me as a roadie
51% pure, unadulturated vanity

It is a vanity thing and all other reasons are secondary. Though being able to clean the gravel out of road rash without hair in the way does help.
