Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Summer Weight Long Sleeve Jerseys

The search function showed some old threads about this topic and some good starting points on the web.

I am looking for a long sleeve summer weight jersey as I am fair skinned and only have one other jersey at the moment. Do many here find long sleeves to help during the summer months?

As of now I have only found this one specifically for the summer: Performance Atla Jersey.

Anyone own this or have applicable knowledge to its usefulness? Any other suggestions to go on? Thanks.

i use De Soto arm coolers. Only took em out twice but they do the job and you barely notice they are there.

Interesting, I didn't know such a thing existed.

+1 on the desoto. Gave them my first test this weekend and they passed with flying colors.

i have a few of the Hammer Nutrition (Voler) l/s summer weight jerseys...

https://www.hammernutrition.com/za/HN...,CLTH,Clothing

they're nice, and for $50 you can beat them, but you're still going to sweat your ass off on a hot summer day. i don't wear them because i'm fair skinned, because i'm not, i only wear them when it's too chilly for a sleeveless jersey and too warm for arm warmers...

I wear a generic version of this as a base layer up to about mid-80's.

If the sun is getting overwhelming or my arms are already way-too-tanned despite loads of sunscreen...I also opt for a long-sleeved UnderArmour compression shirt beneath my riding jersey. It works great.

I bought this long sleeve base layer ($10):

and this sleevless jersey ($15):

Mix and match with my other regular short sleeve jersey as needed...

I've kicked this one around. It has a lot of mesh, including the sleeves. But underarmour heatgear has worked pretty well for me and you can wear any jersey you want.

Take a look at Under Armour Heat Gear. This is some very lightweight clothing that wicks perspiration away from the skin. I have a long sleeve compression fit shirt that I wear under a regular jersey. Take a look here to see an example. It's a bit spendy at $45 but it's very comfortable. I've also got the Cold Gear compression fit shirt and tights for cold weather riding.

Everyone, thanks for the information. It's not getting any cooler here for some time so I'll make a purchase soon. I have been impressed with UA gear in the past so I'll definately look into those for the future. Thanks.

Why not the UA gear without the kersey at all? I can't imagine throwing on a second layer in 95 degrees.

UnderArmour compression shirts don't have any pockets at all. Most riders who utilize them will couple a thin compression shirt with a regular jersey for storage of food, money, cellular, extra waterbottles, etc.

Ahh, since I can't really use pockets much I don't think about that.

i went through the exact same thing at the beginning of summer (i even considered the mix match base layer with sleeveless). I have the performance alta and can say I really like it and wear it on all my rides now, it has a more relaxed club fit and is light a breathable. The extra long front zipper helps you cool off pretty easily too, I say get the performance alta, just talk to the rep if your unsure about your size.
