Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With riding a bike its either...

1) you can ride
or
2) you cant ride

1) leads to...

you have the time and dont ride so you lack motivation
or
you have the time and ride so there is no limitation

2) leads to you don't have the time

Money is no excuse. If you have a bike you can go ride. If you don't want to its lack of motivation. Same thing for impatience, or Non-compliance of spouse/SO.

As far as RyanF, he is on a whole different level then all of us non preasortic beasts.

It used to be genetics for me .... I went as far as I could. Now that I'm riding again, it's lack of time due to family.

I didn't say to reach an arbitrary potential; I said your potential, which means the best you can be with your genes/physiology.

I should have included an option for lack of self-discipline.

In that case, Ulcerative Colitis. If anything has limited my athletic potential it's been my 25 year relationship with this f'd up disease.

It's not lack of self discipline;it's a knowing choice.

You have to have your values.

I would have to say time for training...

Who thought it was a good idea to have kids...

But also the natural ability to suffer...

Now I can suffer but I can't SUFFER...

After all cycling is all about suffering...

Isn't it...

So that if I meet the wearer of the shirt, I can say "Hey, that's the Pennybacker Bridge!" (My attempt at a smooth opening line.)

If you met the wearer of that shirt, you could probably do no more than drool on yourself!

I have many incapacities when it comes to dealing with women, but drooling is not among them.
