Pinarello Angliru - comments
I have been shopping around for a new bike in the $2500 Aus range. I can get full carbon (eg Giant OCR or TCR C2) with shimano 105 groupset and basic wheels, or I can get Pinarello Angliru aluminium frame with carbon forks/rear triangle, ultegra groupset and better wheels.
I am leaning to the Pinarello, but I can't find out much about the Pinarello Angliru, so does anyone have any comments.
One of the problems is that with the fairly small LBS's in my area, none really allow you to test drive the bikes.
Any comments would be appreciated.

I test rode one here in Singapore. It felt ok but I didn't buy it in the end.
There are a lot of Pinarellos Galileos and Anglirus here in Singapore with many happy riders. The dealer is well regarded.
The only negative comment I have heard is on the quality of the "MOST" parts.
Also I have been told that you pay a "bling" premium for what is a generic Taiwanese aluminium frame.
I wanted it as a second bike for travelling (my OCLV Trek is taking a pounding). I was happy to pay a bling premium for a bike I liked the look of (I am testing BMC Streetfire this weekend.)
I love the feel of my carbon bike and it was not an either / or decision for me.
My head would say get the carbon frame. 105 is great by all accounts and you will probably want to upgrade the wheels on either bike eventually anyway.

The TCR C2 would have a lighter frame and the 105 10 speed components are well specified, its has a short wheel base and would handle faster and more direct, the askium wheelset is bombproof but heavy.
IMHO on balance the TRC C2 is the best value.

I have a Galileo. You can either regard it as a frame and groupset or as a nice complete bike.
I ended up swapping the bars, stem, seat post, saddle, crankset and tyres and replace with non-MOST branded parts from ebay. I put on bling parts like syntace carbon bars, wr compositi seat post, Thomson stem, dura ace crankset and AmClassic wheels to make quite a nice high end bike.
Not because the parts were bad per se, but because I wanted better bits to match the quality of the frame and it's cheaper to get exactly the parts you want from ebay on top of an off the peg bike rather than custom speccing a whole bike. I kept the wheels for training as they're actually quite nice.
On the Angliru I wouldn't recommend going down that route since the groupset isn't great. For the money I'd buy a more balanced all-round bike - a trek or cannondale or giant would be a good option I think.
