Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Topeak Two Timer Pump?

Does anyone have any experience with the Topeak Two Timer. It is supposed to be a CO2 inflater and minipump (that can reach 120 psi) in one. sounds like a great product if it works. Let me know if you have used it yet and your thoughts.

thanks

I have had a couple topeak mini pumps and liked them a lot...no experience with this particular one but I've seen it and been intrigued as well. They make good stuff though so give it a try!

I haven't used it either, but I have generally found that the mini pumps are very difficult to use to top off your tires to over 100psi. Your upper body gets a work out in the worst way. Plus you run the real risk of tearing the tube at the stem joint. I imagine that something like the two-timer introduces additional compromises that would make it ever more of a chore.

It's one of those things that on paper sounds great; I was almost convinced myself. But in practice, I'll bet it's hell to use it.

If they made a morph-2-timer, I'd go for it (assuming it has a hose instead of rigid connection). But in its current design, I would really question its usability as a pump at high pressure.

Remember, most of Topeak's pumps are rated to 160psi. And I know for a fact it's a real chore getting to 120 with one. Imagine, the 2-timer is rated for 120. I'll bet in practice it's nearly impossible to get over 100psi with it.

I got one last year but haven't had to use it yet. My rationale: I expect to use CO2 most of the time, but worst case I can use the pump to get unstuck rather than have a long walk/push ahead of me. There's little space or weight penalty compared to their regular CO2 pumps.

I use the innovations second wind. Before I inflate with CO2, I pump the tube up a bit to give it some shape. It's a lousy hand pump, but worst case scenario, I could pump enough to limp home.
