Failure Mode for Low Batteries in Powertap Hub?
I've been having some interesting readings from my PT (standard) hub lately. As it's been ~4500 miles since the batteries were fresh, I'd like to replace the batteries.
First off - does anyone know the 'type' of battery for the hub?
Secondly - what's the usual 'failure' mode for low/dead batteries in the hub? Have you just noticed the readings going dead, or do you generally notice that readings are beginning to trend high/low before the batteries go dead?
Thanks...

Can't really help you on specifics, but Cycleops has a pretty good customer service and if you give them a call they could probably help a lot more than anyone on the forums could.

Just go to Cycleops site and check out the owner's manual for the Powertap. They have full specifications on what battery is needed for the head unit a what batteries (2) are needed for the hub.

For the last year or two, they haven't had the owner's manual for the Powertap Standard - at least that I can find. I would expect the batteries are the same... but I was looking for a little more confirmation.
I guess I'll break open the PT this morning.

Throw the stick!!!!
When my batteries were going out my readings were hit and miss. It would go anywhere from ten seconds to ten minutes giving me no readings at all. The good news is that it only takes about a minute to change the batteries. Very easy procedure.

The readings will usually drop in and out more often, but occasionally one of mine will lose its' zero and start displaying wildy inaccurate readings. This is easy to check by coasting with the chain slack and verifying that it doesn't read zero watts.

A question kind of along the same lines- so rather than start another thread...
Just got a new Powertap SL. Got the computer setup and everything installed except I'm not using the wired cadence. The HR monitor is recognized by the computer fine, but that's all I get. The rest is just dashes. I've spun the wheel/went for a short ride, but the transmission icon doesn't appear. The computer is not in cyclo computer mode either. The shark fin is less than 2 inches from the hub. Is the only option then to replace the batteries in the hub? If that doesn't work then what else? Is the hub faulty?
