Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roubaix Comp...flexy?

Hey...does anyone else riding one of these bikes ever feel like their carbon frame is on the flexy side? Don't get me wrong, I love my bike and it's super comfy, but sometimes when accelerating, climbing out of the saddle I feel like the frame is a bit on the flexy side...is it me? My wheels?

Share your experience. I was under the opinion that carbon was relatively stiff.

Carbon is a material, not a structure. There are flexy carbon frames and stiff carbon frames. The dynamics of the Roubaix are intentional -- it's a nice frame. You're not losing any power because of the flex, just enjoy the smooth ride.

Wheels may be another thing. See how easy it is to push a rim into a brake pad with your thumb. It should be pretty tough, but about twice as easy on the rear as on the front.

Bottom bracket stiffness, or lack there of, could be causing a "mushy" feeling. As if your sinking into the road instead of moving up it. I had a Roubaix Comp a couple of years ago, have the Pro now, and don't recall it being "mushy". That's not to say it wasn't but I don't recall it being. I can gurantee that the Pro isn't "mushy" at all! I am 6' and 165 lbs, fwiw...

Yup, I got an 07 Expert (same frame as the Pro)....Not mushy at all, I actually find it quite stiff when I'm hammering on the pedals...Not that what I do can really be called hammering (I weight a paltry 137lbs)...Either way I love the bike and how it rides...

I've heard that the Roubaix is pretty stiff at the BB, and I believe that I can feel that..it's just that sometimes when I'm 'into' the pedals, it seems that the rear end drags along a bit..hard to explain...not that the bike isn't fast..maybe just not 'quick'.

Anyhow, thinking of testing some other wheels and see what that does...and as mentioned, the ride is amazingly smooth so not complaining..just analyzing..or maybe OVER ANALyzing!

Yeah, maybe swap wheels with a buddy for part of a ride and see if his bike or your bike behaves differently.

Nothing to do with frame stiffness has anything to do with how quick your bike is as you pedal. It's all just the way it feels.
