    opinions of scott speedster s4

I am in the market for a new road bike and was wondering what people though of the scott s4. I am looking for a bike with a good frame-decent components- and under $1,000. I have heard the scott frames are really nice and, and that they use the same frame on many of their models and just upgrade components as they go up. There is a scott dealer in my area so I will be able to check it out, but i just wanted to get a few opinions of the bike from all of you before I took the plunge. Thanks

I absolutely love my Speedster S2! It's my first road bike, so my opinion is not incredibly accurate, but with that said, I love it. It fits me well (very important) and it does everything I could ask of it. Once my engine gets better, then I will get a "better" bike.

I have been happy with my Speedster S1. If you shop around you should be able to get an S2 for around a $1000.

+1 I love my Speedster S1. I shopped around and got my S1 for around 1k. I was happy with that deal. I got it from usedbikewarehouse on ebay (eek) but it was new, and the only problem was minor and has aged-out (small hop in the wheel, which is gone now).

I highly recommend the bike. It is my first real road bike, but nonetheless, I'm very happy with it.

This is great! Asked about S4, got response 'I love my Speedster (anything but S4)'. I'm sure this is a great bike, like any other 100 of the same price range.

The speedster frame is a great frame, the S1-5 is just a different component group. Just remember, like everyone says, buy the most you can afford, it's much cheaper to get better components with the bike.

Thanks for that. My reply was a testament to Scott, and even more specifically the Speedster, in which the poster was interested. My reply was relevant, no matter if it was about a S4 or S1 or whatever. S4 and S1 are similar, at least, except components, which doesn't concern the "scott speedster" name anyway. So yeah, thanks for jumping in there...

I still don't understand what the purpose of 4 people saying they love the speedster frame out of 80000 users of BF. Does it mean anything at all?
All of you are with your first bike, so you don't have anything else to compare to!
At least give reasons why you love it and compare it to other bikes assuming its not your first bike.

My first road bike was an S4, I really liked it. If you can find an S3 you'll get bumped up to 105 and carbon fork, but to be honest, I put 5K miles on the S4 in a year and was really happy with it. The frame is the same through the series, although I think now they might be putting a carbon rear triangle on the S1 and they don't do the CR1 carbon fork on S3-S1. So basically you're going to get a really decent frame, a Tiagra groupset, and an aluminum fork. Definitely a bike worthy of putting some miles on, especially if you can get a pretty good price.

i think the 2007 (blue and white) comes with a carbon fork. And the S1 and S2 have a carbon rear. I haven't been able to find a killer price on one. 849-899 for the s4. I was really looking for a bike with a good frame that was worth upgrading when i came into some more money/actually needed it.

He's not really a prick, he does make a good point. However, 4 of of 80,000 is a reasonable response considering how many manufacturers there are, how many models they make, and how many model numbers there are. This is especially true since Scott is not a larger company in the US as compared to TREK or Cannondale.

Sorry if I came out as Prick with my post.
I don't see how 'I love my ...' helps anyone. Can you please explain why you love it, have you compared it to other bikes, etc... Making this kind of threads more useful and educating.
