Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which gloves do you prefer?

I currently use the non-gel version of THESE and am pretty pleased with them generally speaking.

They're getting a little bit worn out after one season on them though (probably just reserve them for trainer use this fall/winter) and so I'm thinking about THESE as replacements. Any experience with the Castelli line?

What do you ride with?

personal preference I believe.

I prefer to ride without any gloves, but eventualy the sun makes your hands look like crap, so I bought a pair of Pearl's long finger gloves more or less touring gloves but they are quite nice

what size Pearl Izumi Gel-Vent Glove do you have?
I have a pair that's like new, only worn for one week. I they're washed and all cleaned up.
If you fit a Med size you can have mine free of charge.. saves ya from spending money on the Castelli ones.

When it comes to gloves, I base my purchase on looks and brand. I ride Castelli logos. They're great and killer looking (white and black with a huge scorpion). No velcro, so nothing to snag in the wash. I don't like the brand Pearl Izumi in general and Specialized gloves are pretty ugly.

I ride with anything that has Pittards on the palms, currently i have Giordana Corsa PT's The Pittards Leather stays soft even after many washings. I stay away from Gel gloves can produce pressure points especially as they age and the Gel shifts, liquid or foam Gel gets funky eventually. Giordana's are holding up really well.

Louis Garneau Biogel for me, but choosing gloves is a pretty individual thing....I've tried PI and Assos in medium and both just didn't fit well. The LG does for my hands....ymmv

I have a pair of the padded peal izumi full fingered gloves. I love em and wear them in ALL conditions... I have the crazy tan lines to prove it.

Unfortunately they are wearing out and I have only worn them for a month or two... but I guess I don't expect gloves to last that long anyway.. and they smell rank now.

Now I either need a new pair or something else padded.

Have a pair of PI pittards. Hate them because the back is too stretchy.

Campagnolo Pittard TG Racing Gloves

I've been experiencing numbing of the palms and soreness between the thumb and forefinger lately. I just ordered a pair of Campagnolo Technical Gear System Pittard Gloves from coloradocyclist.com. They were rated as the one of the most comfortable in a Cycling Plus magazine review.

The Campy's appear to have good padding where I require it, although a recent pair of Specialized BG Gel Gloves let me down with too much padding. Dug into my hands, causing numbness quickly, requiring riding barehanded. Actually barehanded is quite good, and just as comfortable, if not more so than my PI's, Nashbar's, Giordana's, Axo's, and a few more I don't recall at the moment. My bar is gel padded, although the jgel is not helping much.

The more terry cloth the better. I like wiping my nose a lot.

I use a pair of Chiba gloves (2006 year model 30422 Classic), they have a terry section and are pretty breathable. Have worked fine for me so far except one of the seams on a finger is breaking open. They were $27 when I purchased them, and I imagine I could get a much cheaper pair that would last at least that long from Performance or Nashbar.

Unpadded, full fingered Nike cycling gloves. I couldn't find a picture, but they're black & grey w/ a velcro strap.
