Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow has it been that long?

I got my first road bike 2 years ago today, August 9, 2005. Back then I rode it home in pants, a shirt, and regular shoes. It wasn't long after that I got the shoes, which at first I did not like. Then I went from wearing shorts to wearing spandex shorts. Then I got bibs. Now I'm a Veteran of the sport. Sorta.

Congratulations on the "birthday". I believe sometime this month is my sixth "birthday" since I got back into cycling.

No, it was because I quit smoking three packs of cigarettes a day cold turkey. I started riding bikes to reward myself for my accomplishment.

According to my wife, you'll soon be shaving your legs and tucking in to show everyone your "mangina." I think she wants me to stop shaving my legs.

Hahaha, I don't plan to start shaving my legs until I start doing a lot of group rides and races. You should probably stop shaving your legs then women can make your life awful if you don't do what they want. You could probably still trim it up tho.
