Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike Short/Bib Recommendation

I have been biking for a little while and I currently have two pairs of bike shorts both of which were inexpensive (40$ nashbar and 50$ pearl izumi) and neither are extremely comfortable. Could anyone recommend a good pair of bibs or shorts and I would rather not pay that much (over 100$) but I understand that I might have to.

Thanks

I'm a fan of Voler and Castelli, both of which can be had for under or right at $100

and the Castelli's https://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?p...ajor=4&minor=7

Damn only 44 bucks for bibs that have the same padding as 100 dollar bibs from Velowear! I am getting a pair, thanks! Even thought they advertise, I like hammer products so I'll make an exception.

i have a pair of the Hammer (Voler) shorts. they're nice, definitely the "best-bang-for-the-buck" bib shorts, but i wouldn't wear them on really long rides. they're great for 30-40 mile rides though...

Pearl izumi ultrasensor are confortable. By far, the best and most confortable are my Descente Aero Strata bisb.

+1.

If you know what size you wear, you can get the shorts for about $50 online. That's a pretty good discount from retail price. You won't find that kind of deal on the bibs though.

i prefer the tenax myself, and they take up most of my bib collection too, but the OP doesn't want to spend more than $100...

Thanks for all the help, The Giordana Silverline and the Voler shorts seem to be good deals. One more question about sizing. I am about 6'2" and fairly lean at 165 pounds so I am between the medium and large so what size would you recommend?

Oh if you do decide to order from hammer, you can get 15% off your first order if you say you got a referal. You can use my customer # for referal of 103201.

disclaimer: I will also get a kickback to my account if you say I refered you. I just wanted to provide full disclosure.

I can also recommend the Hammer Bibs...I have 2 pair now and find them really comfortable on short and long rides...well worth the $$ IMO...you also won't find better customer service.

I picked up the Hammer/Voler bibs a week ago. So-so. Not overly impressed, but a good short for the money. Fabric is better than Performance Ultras, but Ultras have a better chamois. I have not found a short I like better than my Assos, but I am always looking.

For the money Performance Ultra bibs are extremely hard, if not impossible, to beat.
